Guest lecture on "Recent trends in Automotive Industry" held on 18.02.16
A guest lecture on the topic of "Recent trends in Automotive Industry" was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 18.02.2016 in Paavai Engineering College. Dr.Arun Tom Mathew, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Design and Automation, VIT University, Vellore was the chief guest and he delivered a special lecture.
The programme was presided over by Dr.K.K.Ramasamy , Director-Administration, Paavai Institutions,. Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, Prof.A.P.Sivasubramaniam, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, Paavai Engineering College, took part and graced the occasion.
Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, in his presidential address urged the students to look at every object around us with a technical point of view. They should analyze the design, geometry, stress points and other such technical aspects of any product/ object/ furniture to understand the basic principle behind their properties and mechanical behavior.
The chief guest in his lecture explained many recent technical advancement in the Automobile industry with examples. He touched upon 'Concurrent Engineering' the concept in which design and production are carried out simultaneously to reduce the lead time to introduce a product in the market to beat the competitors. He further explained the achievements of auto market leaders like Maruthi, Tata, Honda and other companies which revolutionized the automobile industry. He showed the videos on designing of car bodies and how they are fed in to computer packages through co-ordinate Measuring Machines.
The lecture was well received with interaction. A large number of students, faculty members and Department Heads participated in this program.
