A One Day Seminar on "The Internet of Things - The Next Technology"

The Department of MCA organized a one day seminar on 'The Internet of Things - The Next Technology' on 10th October 2017. Dr.L.Arockiam, Dean & Professor, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), Trichy, was the chief guest for the function. The function started on a divine note with the prayer song. Ms. R.Kanimozhi of II MCA welcomed the gathering. The function was presided over by Dr. K.K.Ramasamy, Director-Admin., Paavai Educational Institutions. Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, in his presidential address, stressed the importance of gathering the new ideas and lateral thinking to create innovations. He emphasized the students to practice and improve the communication skills in order to communicate properly to face the company interview successfully. Finally, he insisted the students to grow up with the latest technology. The chief guest, Dr.L.Arockiam, in his keynote address, instructed the students to gain the knowledge with the Internet of Things (IoT) technology and get easy employability around the world. In the morning session, he briefed the students about Internet Revolution, Impact of Internet, IoT Introduction, Emerging Architecture of IoT and Layers of IoT. The Session 2 "IoT Technologies and Tools" handled by Mr.S.Santiago, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph's College, Trichy. He gave a detailed information about Backbone of IoT, Sensors, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Near Field Communication (NFC), Ethernet, Bluetooth, WiFi and Wireless concepts with examples. The session 3 "Big Data & IoT Data Management" was handled by Mrs.A.Jenifer Jothi Mary, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph's College, Trichy. She described elaborately about Big Data, Structures, Passive IoT Data, Active IoT Data, Dynamic IoT Data, Real-time decision making and Artificial Intelligence technologies with applications. The session 4 "IoT Security & App Demonstration", was taken by Mr.A.Dalvin Vinoth Kumar, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph's College, Trichy. He explained in detail about various Issues of IoT and overcoming methods for these issues. Finally, he demonstrated IoT principles with Apps. The sessions were highly interactive and the queries of the students were clearly clarified by the resource persons. The outcome of the one day seminar is that the students are able to understand Internet of Things concepts and can innovating the IoT devices and applications for our environment. Earlier, Introduction of the chief guest was given by Ms. R.Monika of II MCA. The function concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms.M.Saranya, III MCA. Heads of various Departments, Professors, and Lecturers actively participated in the progamme and made it a grand success. Students from various Arts and Science colleges and MCA department participated with full zeal and was benefitted by this programme.
