Special Lecture on
"Higher Education in the United States"
Guest Lecture programme on “Higher Education in the United States” was delivered by a team of education experts from USIEF- United States India Education Foundation at Paavai Institution on 30th January 2012.
Smt. Mangai Natarajan, the correspondent of Paavai Institutions presided over the function.
Ms. Brinda Balachandran, Education USA Assistant, USIEF, Chennai spoke about the procedures for getting shortlisted in US University and the reason for selecting US as an option to do their higher studies. The reasons for selecting US University are vast due its flexibility in selecting the course, and degrees of different major. She also added that this is the first time that they are organizing such an event outside Chennai. She also explained the importance of accreditation. In addition to submitting an application, students are required to send their academic transcripts, standardized test scores (GRE/GMAT along with TOEFL), two or three letter of recommendation, statement of purpose and financial support documents. Statement of purpose should be clear, simple and precise without grammar mistakes and should be written with honest. Students should opt for fall semester because the sponsorship will more compared to the spring semester. She also advised the students to rally only on government websites and not on any fake sites, because only government websites will provide a reliable, true information.
Michella Zjhra, Vice-consulate, US. Consulate General, Chennai and Ms. Vidya Selvam, VISA officer, made an power point presentations on the student visa process. They stress the importance of choosing an accredited university, accessing quality of information, interview, an planning financial documents.
