Alumni Guest Lecture on “Business Management Skills for Biotechnology Professionals”

The Department of Biotechnology organized an Alumni Lecture on “Business Management Skills for Biotechnology Professionals” on 17th March 2025 for the benefit of Biotechnology students. The objective of the programme was to enhance students’ understanding of essential management skills required in the biotechnology field and to provide insights into career development opportunities.

The event was organized under the guidance of the Head of the Department, Dr. C. Nirmala, and coordinated by the department Alumni Coordinator, Ms. E. Gomathi, Teaching Research Associate, along with faculty coordinators Mr. T. Aravind, Assistant Professor, and Ms. S. Ilakya, Assistant Professor, with the support of student coordinators.

The session commenced with the Welcome Address delivered by S. Sharmita (III Year BT), the student coordinator. The Presidential Address was delivered by Ms. S. Ilakya, Assistant Professor, who highlighted the importance of integrating management skills with technical knowledge in the biotechnology sector.

The Alumni Introduction was given by B. Mithralekha and E. Sobika (III Year BT). The Alumni speaker, Ms. S. S. Sudharsana, MBA (HR) Candidate, then delivered the lecture.

During the lecture, she explained key aspects such as:

  • Communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Strategic planning
  • Career opportunities for Biotechnology students

She also discussed the relevance of management principles in real-world biotechnology applications, helping students understand how these skills can enhance their professional growth.

An interactive Q&A session followed, during which students actively engaged with the speaker and clarified their doubts regarding career paths, skill development, and industry expectations.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by J. Joseph Stalin (III Year BT), who expressed gratitude to the Alumni speaker, management, Head of the Department, faculty coordinators, student coordinators, and participants for their support and contribution to the success of the event.

Overall, the alumni lecture was highly informative and beneficial. It provided students with valuable insights into management skills essential for biotechnology professionals and inspired them to prepare for future career challenges.
