Alumni Guest Lecture on Embedded Systems and IoT – Empowering the Digital Future

The Department of ECE organized an Alumni Guest Lecture on Embedded Systems and IoT – Empowering the Digital Future on 15.07.2026 at Microsoft Teams. The session was delivered by Mrs.K.Jamuna Rani, Technical Lead at HCL Technologies, Chennai, who belongs to the 2004-2008 batch of the department.

The objective of the session:

To familiarize participants with IoT architecture embedded hardware, communication protocols, and real-world applications.

Session details:

The programme commenced with the presentation of the Vision, Mission, Programme Educational Objectives, Program Specific Outcomes of the Department and SDGs by Ms. R. Abhinaya, III-Year ECE-A. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. K. Dharanya, III-Year ECE-A. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. R. Mohanapriya, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, ECE, Paavai Engineering College. In her address, she appreciated the initiative of organizing alumni interaction programmes and encouraged the students to actively participate in such knowledge-enriching sessions to strengthen their technical competencies and career preparedness.

The Chief Guest Introduction was presented by Mr. B. G. Madhavan, III-Year ECE-B, who highlighted the academic and professional achievements of the resource person and expressed appreciation for her inspiring career journey. The keynote address was delivered by Ms. K. Jamuna Rani, distinguished alumna of the department. Her lecture focused on the evolution of Embedded Systems and the Internet of Things, emphasizing the transition from current technologies to future-ready digital solutions. The session covered several important technical topics, including Embedded Systems Fundamentals, IoT Fundamentals, IoT Architecture, Communication Protocols, Connectivity Technologies, and the Applications and Impact of Embedded Systems across various industries.

The resource person explained the key characteristics of embedded systems, the significance of critical real-time operations, and their indispensable role in automation and control systems. She further illustrated the integration of Embedded Systems and IoT through practical examples and real-world innovations in Smart Cities and Industry 4.0, enabling students to understand their growing importance in modern technological ecosystems. In the concluding part of the lecture, Ms. K. Jamuna Rani provided valuable guidance on career opportunities in the fields of Embedded Systems and IoT. She discussed the diverse application areas, current industry challenges, emerging technological trends, essential technical skills, and various career pathways available for aspiring engineers. Her practical insights and industry experiences motivated students to explore advanced learning and professional development in these domains.

The session was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation from students who actively engaged in discussions and clarified their queries regarding real-time applications and future career prospects. The lecture significantly enhanced the participants’ understanding of intelligent embedded technologies and their impact on the digital future. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. S. Devipriya, III-Year ECE-A, who expressed sincere gratitude to the resource person for sharing her valuable knowledge and practical experiences. She also thanked the management, Head of the Department, faculty members, organizing committee, and all the participants for making the event a grand success.

The programme was convened by Dr. R. Mohanapriya, Associate Professor and Head, Department of ECE, and coordinated by Mr. S. Loganathan, AP, ECE, MrsA.Sujitha, AP, ECE and S.Tamilarasi, AP, ECE, along with Mr. S. Sathish, Alumni Association Cell Coordinator. A total of 25 faculty members with one Alumni (Mr.Dinesh, from Deloitte and Touche, Banglore) and 283 students from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering actively participated in the programme.

Outcome of the event:

At the end of the guest lecture, participants will gain a clear understanding of the fundamentals of Embedded Systems and IoT, including their architecture, components, communication technologies, and real-world applications. They will be able to recognize emerging trends, explore career opportunities in the field, and develop the motivation to apply Embedded Systems and IoT concepts to design innovative, smart, and connected solutions for real-world challenges.
