The Department of Information Technology, in association with the Growing Coders Club, organized an awareness programme titled “Gateway to GATE: Career Opportunities Through GATE” on 27th July 2026 at the Cute Hall. The programme was delivered by Dr. Anandh Nagarajan, Assistant Professor (Senior Grade), Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SIMATS Engineering College, Saveetha University, Chennai.
The programme commenced with the presidential address by Dr. K. Selvi, Dean Academics, who encouraged students to actively participate in academic and co-curricular activities while adopting innovative approaches to achieve their career goals. Ms. Boomika S, a Third-Year IT student, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Keerthana Bharathi S, a Third-Year IT student, introduced the Chief Guest, and Ms. G. Harini, a Final-Year IT student, served as the Master of Ceremony.
The session provided valuable insights into the significance of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and its role in shaping students’ academic and professional careers. Dr. Anandh Nagarajan explained how GATE opens pathways to M.Tech and MS admissions in premier institutions, scholarships, PSU recruitment, research opportunities, and higher studies abroad. He also discussed the GATE examination pattern, marking scheme, important Computer Science subjects, and effective preparation strategies.
The speaker emphasized the importance of building strong conceptual knowledge, maintaining consistency in preparation, practising previous-year question papers, and developing effective time management skills. He motivated students to begin their preparation early and focus on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning, enabling them to excel in both the GATE examination and their future careers.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students clarified their doubts regarding GATE preparation, higher education opportunities, and career prospects. Following the session, Prof. Dr. R. R. Krishnamurthy, Director – Research, delivered the felicitation address, appreciating the guest speaker for sharing his expertise and commending the Department of Information Technology for organizing the meaningful initiative.
Nearly 90 students benefited from the awareness programme. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. D. Subham Kumar Singh, a Third-Year IT student, marking the successful conclusion of the event. Overall, the programme was highly informative, motivating, and inspiring, encouraging students to set higher academic goals and prepare confidently for the GATE examination.
