The Department of English at Paavai Engineering College conducted a two-day online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Research Writing and Publications on 02.09.26 & 03.09.26. Ms.V.K.Smitha, Assistant Professor of English at Dr.Ambethkar Government Arts College, Chennai and Dr. R.Bathridevanath, Assistant Professor, Dean Educational Reasearch, Training and Development Unit-RICE-MMS, Hosur were the resource persons. Dr.M.Premlumar, Principal,Paavai Engineering College presided over the function. Dr.S. R.Kannan, faculty from the department of English. PEC, welcomed the gathering.
Day 1(02.09.26) a session on Ethical Foundations and Integrity in Research was conducted to create awareness about the importance of ethical and responsible research practices. The resource person, V. Smitha, explained why research is important in creating new knowledge and discussed the seven steps of the research process. The session highlighted the significance of ethics at every stage of research, including identifying the research problem, collecting data, analysing and presenting findings. The participants were introduced to qualitative and quantitative data and were sensitised to the importance of collecting, handling, and retaining data responsibly. Special emphasis was given to plagiarism, highlighting the need to acknowledge original sources and maintain academic honesty.
The session also focused on authorship and publication ethics. The resource person emphasised that ethical publication requires honesty, transparency, originality and proper acknowledgement of sources. Overall, the session provided valuable insights in publications, thereby encouraging participants to undertake research in a systematic and responsible manner.
On Day 2( 03.09.26) Dr. R.Bathridevanath, Assistant Professor, Dean Educational Reasearch, Training and Development Unit-RICE-MMS, Hosur discussed on ‘Harnissing Artificial Intelligence for Academic Research’. During his presentation, he demonstrated how AI tools are handy for the researchers and faculty members. He used different tools during his presentation and elaborated how the tools are useful in organizing a research paper starting from literature survey, data analysis and hypothesis. The session was quite useful for the researchers as well as for the faculty members.
The online FDP was a resounding success, providing a platform for the researchers and faculty members to explore the opportunities in research. Nearly 210 participants were benefitted.
