The Department of CSE (AI&ML), in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a Guest Lecture on “Agentic AI for Medical Imaging: Perception to Autonomous Decision-Making” on 21st August 2026 in online mode. The session, delivered by Dr. Ramya Palaniappan, explored how agentic AI systems progress from basic perception – such as image recognition and feature extraction in radiological scans – to autonomous, accountable decision-making in diagnostic workflows. Drawing on her doctoral research on deep learning for Multiple Sclerosis lesion diagnosis and her patented work on AI-enhanced prosthetics, she detailed the perception, reasoning/planning, and feedback-driven decision layers that underpin such systems, and stressed interdisciplinary collaboration between AI researchers and clinicians to build trustworthy, explainable healthcare AI.
The programme opened with a prayer song and the presentation of the department’s Vision, Mission, POs & PEOs, followed by a Welcome Address, Presidential Address by Dr. M. Premkumar (Principal), and a formal guest introduction. The keynote was followed by an interactive Q&A on career and research pathways in AI-healthcare, and the event closed with a Vote of Thanks. Convened by Dr. P. Srinivasan (HoD, AI&ML), the session drew active participation from 260 students and effectively strengthened awareness of AI applications in medical imaging.
