The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in association with the Institution of Engineers India (IEI), Salem Local Centre, organized an online guest lecture titled “Emerging Planar Paradigms in RF Signal Interconnects” on 07.09.2026. The programme was aimed at disseminating knowledge among students on emerging trends and applications of RF signal interconnects and the role of Electronics and Communication Engineers in the field of Microwave Electronics. The inaugural session was presided over and convened by Dr. R. Mohanapriya, Associate Professor and Head, Department of ECE. This was followed by the welcome address delivered by Ms. K. Jesika, III Year, ECE. The Vision and Mission of the Institution and Department, along with the PEOs, PSOs and POs, were presented by Ms. R. Abinaya, III Year, ECE. The resource person was formally introduced by Mr. B. G. Madhavan, III Year, ECE. Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, was the Patron of the event.
The resource person, Dr. H. Umma Habiba, Dean, Research and Development, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering and Technology, delivered an informative and technically enriching lecture on the fundamentals of RF signal interconnects, planar transmission lines, micro strip, stripline, and coplanar waveguide structures. She explained key concepts such as impedance matching, signal integrity, insertion loss, return loss, dispersion, crosstalk, and electromagnetic coupling. The lecture also highlighted the significance of advanced planar interconnects in 5G/6G, IoT, and mm Wave communication systems, along with current research trends and practical challenges in high-frequency circuit design. The students gained insights into emerging planar technologies and their applications in modern communication systems. The resource person also engaged the students through interactive discussions, puzzles, and connection-based activities to enhance their understanding of the concepts. Around 175 students and 11 faculty members attended the online guest lecture. The participants actively interacted with the resource person, and their queries were addressed and clarified during the session. The Head of the Department, faculty members, and students actively participated in the session and benefited from the technical insights shared by the resource person. The online guest lecture contributes to Programme Outcomes (PO1, PO2, and PO11) and supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4, SDG 8, and SDG 9). The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. J. Sounder, III Year, ECE. Mrs. C. Vanaja, Associate Professor, ECE, and Mr. T. Saran Sujai, Assistant Professor, ECE, organized the event successfully. Prof.Dr.S.Vijayakumar and Mrs.E.Sangeetha Coordinated the event.
