A Guest Lecture on “Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC): Materials, Properties and Applications” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous), in association with the Paavai Civil Engineering Association, on Saturday, 10.10.2026 through online mode.
The session featured Dr.V.Kastro Kiran, Postdoctoral Researcher from IIT-Tirupati (IIT-TPT) and Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at GITAM University, Bengaluru, as the Chief guest and resource speaker.
Ms.R.Shalini, second-year student, welcomed the gathering.Ms.S.Arthikumari, third-year student, introduced the Chief Guest.Dr.K.Sharmiladevi, Head of the Department, formally addressed about the topic & its possibilities in implementation in students project.
The lecture focused on Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), with the announced scope covering its materials, properties and applications. The session provided an academic platform for students and faculty members to learn about this specialized concrete material and its application in metro rails,precast segments and deck slabs.
The programme was organized under the patronage of Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, and the convenor of Dr.K.Sharmiladevi, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering. Mr.N.Moorthi,Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, and Mrs.S.Sowdeshwari, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, served as staff coordinators.
The session was interactive and informative, with students actively participating and gaining a better understanding of Ultra-High Performance Concrete of Civil Engineers in addressing environmental and sustainability challenges. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms.M Dharshini Sri ,second-year student.
The guest lecture supported the Department’s efforts to encourage technical learning and awareness of advanced construction materials among students. The programme was aligned with the SDG themes of quality education, industry and innovation, and responsible production and consumption.
