Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous) organized a session on “Creativity and Design Thinking” on 13th August 2026 at Kalam’s Chamber. The programme was organized by the Departments of Mechatronics Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC). The session aimed to introduce students to the fundamental principles of creativity and design thinking and encourage empathy, observation, ideation, user-centred thinking, problem identification, and solution development.
The programme was presided over by Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College. Dr. D. R. P. Rajarathnam, Professor and Head, Department of Mechatronics Engineering, and Dr. T. Arunkumar, Professor and Head, Department of Biomedical Engineering, served as the conveners. The faculty coordinators welcomed the gathering and coordinated the programme.
The session was delivered by Mr. K. Subramanian, Founder and CEO, VektorCAD Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, who shared valuable insights from his extensive experience in CAD/CAM, CNC automation, robotics, engineering software, and technology-driven innovation. He emphasized the importance of creativity, observation, user-centred thinking, and systematic problem-solving in developing meaningful engineering solutions.
During the interactive session, Mr. Subramanian explained how design thinking methodologies can help students understand real-world problems, identify user needs, generate innovative ideas, and develop practical solutions. His industry-oriented insights enabled participants to connect classroom learning with real-world engineering applications and product development.
The session provided students with an opportunity to explore creative problem identification, ideation, design development, and technology-enabled innovation. Participants actively engaged with the speaker and gained valuable perspectives on approaching engineering challenges with creativity and a user-centred mindset.
Overall, the programme successfully created awareness of the importance of creativity and design thinking in engineering innovation. It encouraged students to cultivate creative problem-solving skills and develop innovative, practical, and user-focused solutions to real-world challenges.
