The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Paavai Engineering College, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a session on “Creativity, Design Thinking” on Thursday, 13th August 2026, from 2.00 PM to 4.30 PM at Kalam’s Chamber. The session was organized to introduce participants to the fundamental principles of creativity and design thinking and to encourage empathy, observation, ideation, user-centred thinking, problem identification, and solution development.
The session was graced by Mr. K. Subramanian, Founder & CEO, VektorCAD Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, as the Chief Guest. With nearly three decades of professional experience in CAD/CAM software development, CNC automation, robotics, and engineering software solutions, he brought valuable industry-oriented perspectives to the session. His areas of expertise include CAD/CAM systems, CNC and sheet-metal automation, robotics software, engineering graphics education, cloud platforms and SaaS, and product design and development.
During the session, the importance of creativity and design thinking in engineering innovation and problem solving was highlighted. The discussion focused on understanding user needs, observing real-world problems, identifying opportunities, generating ideas, and developing practical and user-centred solutions. The speaker’s industry experience in CAD/CAM, CNC automation, robotics, and engineering software provided participants with insights into the relevance of creative and design-oriented approaches in modern engineering and product development.
The session also emphasized the importance of approaching technical challenges from different perspectives and integrating creativity with technology to develop innovative solutions. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, with Dr. T. Arunkumar, HoD/BME, and Dr. D. R. P. Rajarathnam, HoD/MCT, serving as Conveners. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. S. Suganya, AP/BME, and Dr. R. T. AjayKarthik, AsP/MCT, with M. G. Dhanishkar, IV/MCT, serving as Student Coordinator and S. Aswin, IV/BME, serving as Student Rapporteur.
