Trekking, Cleanliness, and Seed-Sowing Activities at Kaliya Varadharaja Perumal Temple and Hill

The Trekking Club of Paavai Engineering College, in collaboration with the Youth Red Cross (YRC), Scouts, National Cadet Corps (NCC), and National Service Scheme (NSS), conducted a hiking programme as part of its Phase II activities on 07.10.2026 (Wednesday) at Kaliya Varadharaja Perumal Temple and Hill. The programme aimed to encourage physical fitness, mental wellness, teamwork, self-discipline, leadership, and environmental awareness among students. A total of 411 students, accompanied by 12 faculty members and one Academic Coordinator (AC), took part in the activity. The participating students represented ECE A (58 students), ECE B (57 students), ECE C (55 students), Biomedical Engineering (60 students), IT A (59 students), IT B (60 students), and IT C (62 students). The combined efforts of the Trekking Club, YRC, Scouts, NCC, and NSS helped ensure the smooth conduct of the programme while encouraging students to develop cooperation, discipline, a spirit of service, and concern for society and the environment.

The hiking programme offered students an opportunity to connect with nature and understand the importance of outdoor recreation in maintaining physical and mental well-being. Faculty members and coordinators accompanied the participants and provided guidance throughout the activity. Instructions on trekking safety, maintaining discipline, drinking sufficient water, following proper trekking practices, and protecting the natural surroundings were communicated to the students. The participants demonstrated enthusiasm, cooperation, and responsible behaviour throughout the programme.

To strengthen environmental consciousness, seed-sowing and waste plastic collection activities were incorporated into the trekking programme. Students collected plastic waste along the trekking path and participated in seed sowing to support greenery and conservation efforts. These activities highlighted the importance of reducing environmental pollution, protecting natural habitats, and contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.

The programme also served as a platform for enhancing students’ teamwork, confidence, mutual cooperation, leadership abilities, and physical stamina. Students from different departments interacted with one another and developed a sense of unity and shared responsibility. The faculty members and coordinators supported the participants by providing necessary guidance, monitoring their safety, and encouraging their active involvement in the programme.

The Phase II hiking programme at Kaliya Varadharaja Perumal Temple and Hill was successfully conducted with the participation of 411 students, 12 faculty members, and one Assistant Coordinator. The activity offered students a meaningful experiential learning opportunity outside the classroom and reinforced the values of physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and environmental stewardship. Through this initiative, the Trekking Club of Paavai Engineering College, along with YRC, Scouts, NCC, and NSS, continued its efforts to foster responsible citizenship, healthy lifestyles, leadership qualities, and environmental awareness among students.
