Workshop on “Embedded Robotics Using Arduino and Sensors”

The Department of Robotics and Automation, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous), organised a one-day workshop titled “Embedded Robotics Using Arduino and Sensors” on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at the Mechatronics Lab. The programme was led by
Mr. V. Govintharaj, Managing Director and CEO of Alas Robotech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Salem. A total of 60 students participated in the workshop.

The forenoon session introduced the fundamentals of embedded robotics, Arduino-based control, and the roles of sensors, microcontrollers and actuators. Students were introduced to the Arduino board and Arduino IDE workflow, including writing, compiling and uploading programs. The hands-on session enabled participants to explore sensor interfacing and the use of sensor readings to control outputs.

The technical activities covered digital and analogue pins, basic Arduino programming, LED control, ultrasonic distance measurement and serial monitoring. Students also learned how sensor inputs can be processed by a microcontroller to control actuators such as LEDs, buzzers, servo motors and DC motors. The workshop explained the sense–decide–act approach and demonstrated how sensor and motor control can be combined to implement basic robotic behaviour, including obstacle avoidance.

The practical orientation helped students connect embedded-system concepts with implementation in robotics and automation. The session also encouraged participants to explore project development in embedded systems, IoT, robotics and hardware/software integration.
