Workshop on “Model Based Design: From EV Powertrains to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems”

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous), in association with The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), organized a Workshop on “Model Based Design: From EV Powertrains to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems” on 7th August 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Kalam’s Chamber. The objective of the workshop was to provide students with practical exposure to Model-Based Design (MBD) and its applications in emerging automotive technologies, particularly Electric Vehicle (EV) powertrains and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The programme aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial requirements by providing students with insights into current automotive technologies, embedded systems, simulation-based design, and industry-oriented career opportunities.

The programme commenced with the Prayer Song rendered by the students. This was followed by the presentation of the Vision, Mission, Programme Outcomes (POs), and Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs),PSOs of the Department by Ms. M. Sasi Poorani, IV Year ECE-C. The Welcome Address was delivered by Ms. G. Madhuvarshini, IV Year ECE-B, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students to the programme.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. B. Murali Babu, Controller of Examinations, Paavai Engineering College. In his address, he emphasized the importance of emerging technologies in the automotive and embedded systems sectors. He highlighted the growing significance of Electric Vehicles, intelligent transportation systems, embedded technologies, and advanced driver assistance systems. He encouraged students to strengthen their technical knowledge, practical skills, analytical abilities, and problem-solving capabilities to meet the evolving requirements of the automotive industry.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed and exchanged between the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Paavai Engineering College, and LIVEWIRE, Salem.

The MoU exchange ceremony was witnessed by Dr. B. Muralibabu, CoE, Paavai Engineering College, Dr.R.Mohanapriya, HoD/ECE, Mr. M. K. Kannan, Center Head, LIVEWIRE, Salem and other resource persons from LIVEWIRE. The Guest Introduction was presented by Ms. K. Dharanya, III Year ECE-A.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr. R. Navaneethan, Business Manager, LIVEWIRE, Salem, who highlighted the growing opportunities in Electric Vehicles, embedded systems, Model-Based Design, and ADAS. He emphasized the importance of practical skills, industry exposure, and continuous learning for students to build successful careers in emerging automotive technologies.The Chief Guest Address was delivered by Mr. M. K. Kannan, Center Head, LIVEWIRE, Salem. He highlighted the importance of industry-oriented technical education and emphasized the need for students to acquire practical knowledge and hands-on experience in emerging technologies. He explained the growing demand for skilled engineers in the areas of Electric Vehicles, embedded systems, automotive electronics, automation, and intelligent transportation systems.

The Technical Sessions were handled by Mr. S. Prasanna Kumar, Technical Lead, LIVEWIRE, CADD Centre, Chennai, and Mr. K. Jaya Surya, Embedded Developer, LIVEWIRE, Salem. They provided an informative and practical overview of Model-Based Design and its applications in modern automotive engineering.The session further focused on Electric Vehicle powertrains, covering the basic architecture and functions of major components such as battery systems, electric motors, power electronic converters, motor controllers, energy management systems, and vehicle control systems. The resource speaker explained how Model-Based Design can be used to develop and test control strategies for EV powertrain applications efficiently.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks, wherein gratitude was expressed to the resource persons for their valuable technical sessions and practical insights. The organizers also thanked the Management, Principal, Controller of Examinations, Head of the Department, IETE, LIVEWIRE, faculty coordinators, faculty members, and students for their support and active participation in making the workshop a successful event. The workshop highlighted the SDG’s – 4,7,9,11,13.

The programme was convened by Dr. R. Mohanapriya, HoD/ECE, and coordinated by Dr. K. Thirumala Lakshmi, AP/ECE, Mr. S. Satheeshkumar, AP/ECE, and Mr. K. Boobalan, AP/ECE. Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, served as the Patron of the programme. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation with 230 students and 12 faculty in the inauguration session and 60 students benefitted from the training workshop, making the event highly informative and beneficial. The programme successfully provided students with valuable exposure to Model-Based Design, EV powertrains, ADAS, embedded technologies, and industry-oriented career opportunities, while also strengthening the institution’s industry–academia collaboration through the signing of the MoU with LIVEWIRE.
