The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Internet of Things), Paavai Engineering College, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), organized a workshop on “Raising Capital and Financial Management for Start-ups” on 11th August 2026 at Bright Hall. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about entrepreneurship, start-up financing, financial planning, and effective financial management. Students from CSE (IoT) and AI&DS actively participated in the event.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by Ms. V. Preethi and Ms. G. Suryagandhi, followed by the welcome address by Mr. K. Devendran. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. M. Rameshkumar, Head, CSE (IoT), who highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and financial awareness for aspiring innovators and start-up founders. Dr. A. Manikandan, Head, AI&DS, delivered the special address. Mr. G. Vasudevan, District Programme Manager, EDII-TN – Namakkal, served as the resource person. The guest was introduced by Ms. S. Kaviga, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. S. Sathyapriya.
The resource session focused on the financial requirements of start-ups and various sources of capital. Students learned about founder finance, retained profits, bank loans, friends and family, business angels, venture capital, trade credit, share capital, debentures, and other sources of finance. The importance of determining financial requirements, cash-flow planning, security, and ownership considerations was also discussed.
The workshop also covered important entrepreneurial practices such as idea generation, market research, SWOT analysis, goal setting, strategic planning, financial planning, business planning, legal compliance, and business launch. The Business Model Canvas was introduced to help students understand key partners, activities, value propositions, customers, resources, channels, costs, and revenue streams.
Overall, the workshop enhanced students’ understanding of start-up finance, capital-raising strategies, financial management, and business modelling. It encouraged students to transform innovative ideas into sustainable ventures by combining technical knowledge with entrepreneurial and financial skills. The programme concluded successfully with the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, resource person, faculty members, coordinators, and students for their valuable support and active participation.
