Guest Lecture on “Defend Your Digital World : Cyber Crime Awareness-2026”

The Department of  Cyber Security organized a  Guest Lecture on the topic “Defend Your Digital World :  Cyber Crime Awareness-2026” on 12.08.2026 at  Pragathi Hall.

The session commenced with a Prayer Song rendered by the Choir Team, which created a serene and spiritual atmosphere for the event. The melodious rendition by the team invoked a sense of peace, unity, and positivity among the gathering. The soulful performance set a meaningful and auspicious tone for the proceedings of the event.

The session began with a welcome address delivered by Brundha R, third year,  cyber security, who warmly greeted the gathering and highlighted the importance of the event.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Shri.  N.V. NATARAJAN, Founder & Chairman, Paavai Institutions, who highlighted the growing importance of cyber security awareness in today’s rapidly evolving digital world. He emphasized that cyber crime poses a significant threat to individuals, educational institutions, organizations, and society, making it essential for everyone to adopt safe and responsible digital practices. He further stressed the importance of staying alert to phishing attacks, online fraud, identity theft, social engineering, and other emerging cyber threats. Through awareness, vigilance, and responsible use of technology, individuals can protect their personal information, digital identities, and online assets. He encouraged the participants to become informed and responsible digital citizens and actively contribute to creating a safer and more secure digital environment. The address provided valuable insights and set a strong foundation for the “Defend Your Digital World: Cyber  Crime Awareness – 2026” programme.

 

Following this, Ms. Varshini S., final Year cyber security, introduced the Guest of Honour, Dr.Vijayaragavan, Additional Superintendent of Police, cyber crime wing, to the gathering.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. R. Vijayaragavan,Ph.D., Additional Superintendent of Police, cyber crime wing, Namakkal, on the topic “Defend Your Digital World: Cyber Crime Awareness – 2026.” He highlighted the increasing prevalence of cyber crimes and the importance of developing awareness and responsible digital practices among students and the public. He explained various forms of cyber threats, including online fraud, phishing, identity theft, social engineering, and misuse of digital platforms. He emphasized the need to remain vigilant while sharing personal information, making online transactions, and using social media. He also encouraged the participants to promptly report cyber crime incidents to the appropriate authorities and adopt safe cyber security practices to protect themselves from emerging digital threats. His insightful address created greater awareness among the participants and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in building a safer digital society.

Following this, Ms. Varuna K., final year, cyber security, introduced the madam , D. Roselin Anthoniammal, Sub Inspector of Police, cyber crime police station, Namakkal, to the gathering.

The speaker, D. Roselin Anthoniammal, Sub Inspector of Police, cyber crime police station, Namakkal, explained the various types of cyber crimes commonly faced by individuals and organizations and shared practical ways to prevent and overcome such crimes. She highlighted common threats such as online financial fraud, phishing, identity theft, social media scams, OTP fraud, and other forms of cyber crime.

She explained effective measures for dealing with cyber crimes, including staying alert, protecting personal and financial information, avoiding suspicious links and messages, using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and reporting fraudulent activities immediately. She also emphasized the importance of preserving digital evidence and promptly informing the cyber crime police when a cyber crime occurs.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating by asking relevant questions and discussing real-world cyber crime incidents, prevention strategies, and effective ways to respond to online threats. The session helped students understand how awareness, timely action, and responsible digital practices can significantly reduce the impact of cybercrime.
