Industrial Visit to Mettur Thermal Power Station

The industrial visit to Mettur Thermal Power Station was carried out on 24th March 2026 by third-year students of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department, accompanied by faculty members. The visit was organized with prior permission from the plant authorities and aimed to provide students with practical exposure to thermal power generation, plant operations, and real-time industrial practices, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation in power systems.

During the visit, students were guided by experienced technical staff who provided a comprehensive explanation of the overall functioning of the thermal power plant. The session included detailed insights into coal handling systems, boiler operations, turbine functioning, generator mechanisms, and power transmission processes. Students were able to observe various stages involved in electricity generation and understand how different components work together in a coordinated manner to produce and transmit power efficiently.

The visit helped students gain practical knowledge of thermal power plant operations and develop a clear understanding of the working principles of boilers, turbines, and generators. They also learned about the safety measures followed in power plants and observed real-time power generation and control systems. Furthermore, the experience enhanced their understanding of the industrial environment and emphasized the importance of teamwork in large-scale operations.

Overall, the industrial visit was highly informative and beneficial, providing valuable real-world exposure and strengthening students’ knowledge in the field of electrical power systems.
