Seminar on “Women’s Health and Wellness: Insights for a Healthier Future”

The Department of Women Welfare committee of Paavai Engineering College organized a one-day seminar titled Women’s Health and Wellness: Insights for a Healthier Future at Bright Hall on 14.07.26. The seminar was designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical insights into women’s health and wellness, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and preventive healthcare. Dr. K. Selvi, Dean Academics, Paavai Engineering College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing that good health is the foundation of a happy and meaningful life. She highlighted that a healthy body nurtures a healthy mind and enables individuals to lead a productive and fulfilling life.

The chief guest, Dr.P.Chitra, Principal, Paavai Institute of Allied Health Science, explained that women require a balanced diet containing the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and water to support growth, energy, immunity and overall well-being. Special attention was given to adolescent girls, highlighting that from around the age of 14, significant physical and hormonal changes occur during puberty. Therefore, nutritious food, proper hygiene, emotional support and healthy lifestyle habits are essential during this stage of life.

The seminar also stressed the importance of eating the right food at the right time and in the right quantity. Participants were encouraged to avoid skipping meals, especially breakfast and to limit the consumption of junk and processed foods. A balanced intake of carbohydrates for energy, proteins for growth and tissue repair and healthy fats for brain function and hormone production was recommended. In addition, the importance of drinking sufficient water, getting adequate sleep, and engaging in regular exercise was highlighted as key factors in maintaining good physical and mental health.

Another major focus of the seminar was the need for regular health monitoring. Routine medical check-ups, including blood pressure, blood sugar, hemoglobin, cholesterol, and body weight assessments, can help in the early diagnosis of health problems and ensure timely treatment. Women were also encouraged to undergo regular health screenings and seek medical advice whenever necessary. The seminar concluded by emphasizing that adopting healthy eating habits, maintaining an active lifestyle and prioritizing preventive healthcare can significantly improve women’s health and contribute to a healthier future for individuals, families and society. The session was attended by around 70 faculty members, who benefited from the valuable information and insights shared.
