A six-day Induction Programme for the first year engineering students of Paavai Engineering College was held in two batches from 25.09.2023 to 04.10.2023 at Prestige Hall, Kalam Chamber, Vishwesvaraiya Hall, Brilliant Hall and Pragati Hall. The inauguration of the induction programme was held at Pragati Hall on 25.09.2023 at 10.00 am. The programme started invoking God’s blessings with the prayer song, followed by lighting of the kuthuvilakku. A.Jaishnu Devi 1st year CSE Department welcomed the gathering. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan Chairman, Paavai Educational Institutions delivered the Inaugural Address in which he emphasized on virtues of love, care and concern for our fellow beings. These core values set the tone for a profound call to the pursuit of knowledge as an ongoing academic journey. Sir recounted his personal experiences while travelling abroad. He narrated his experiences with senior students who wholeheartedly embraced the role of guiding new comers from diverse cultures and backgrounds, thereby underscoring the paramount significance of global higher education. Sir’s question and answer session was enlightening and thought provoking. The Guest of Honour was an erudite Professor, Dr.Sundaram Gunasekaran from one of the top research universities in the world, Wisconsin – Madison, United States. Chairman Sir honoured him with a shawl and a memento. In his address he focused on learning opportunities for students and kindled in students the passion for learning and creating enriching academic experiences. Smt.Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Educational Institutions felicitated the gathering. Madam highlighted the importance of students shouldering responsibilities and making optimal use of college life while at Paavai. She also focused on “Think and Link, Link and Think” and illuminated on students’ learning of their fundamentals strongly. The students lapped up Madam’s points in rapt attention. Kamalasekar ASP,PPSC G.Ravikumar(Japanese), and Mr.Elavarasan Yoga trainer, Department Heads were the resource speakers for the programme who shed light on important topics such as ,’Goal Setting’, ‘Transition from School to College’, ‘Paavai Culture’, ‘Achievements of Paavai’, ‘Autonomous Rules and Regulations’, ‘Inclination towards Projects’, ‘Beauty of Mathematics’, ‘Career Opportunities’, ‘Be Liberated ,Be happy’, ‘Be Fluent’, ‘ICT Tools for Learning’, ‘Time Management’, ‘Life Skills’, ‘Foreign Language’, ‘Overview about the Department’, ‘Sharing Experiences of Paavai’ and ‘Yoga’.
Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan Chairman, Paavai Educational Institutions delivered his speech on the title “Goal Setting”. In his session, first and foremost, he interacted with the students about the need of the Goal Setting Programme. He quoted Abdul Kalam sir’s words and made all students repeat those words. He defined goals and explained the idea of preparation to accomplish their goals. He correlated his life incidence of setting a goal at the age of 17 and how he could make that come true. Sir emphasized the importance of setting a goal and elaborated the seven points where everyone need to take control of their life to be successful. Further he described the factors for not setting the goal and there by fail in achieving it. He expounded on fixing smart goals and thus threw light on the word, ‘SMART’. He elucidated the seven steps for goal setting and also instructed everyone to create a vision of who they want to be in the next ten years. He listed the six components to sustain his victory namely honest objectives, clear approaches, continuous attempt, hard work, discipline and devotion to God. Finally, Sir concluded by stating that,” set your goal, shape your future and be a leader”.
Dr.K.Selvi, Dean Academics, delivered her speech on ‘Paavai Culture’. She explained the Paavai Mantra, Principles, Belief and Code. She detailed about classroom behavior and the principles which should be followed in Paavai. She strongly imposed the culture to be followed strictly on and off the college campus. Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, PEC spoke on the topic “Achievements of Paavai”. He highlighted the awards, recognitions clinched by the students and the faculty members. He explained the facilities and the opportunities available in Paavai Engineering College.
Mrs.C.Jayalakshmi, Dean Counseling, Paavai Institutions delivered her speech on ‘Transition from School to College.’ She said that change is a stressful experience for any one. But for those who have prepared themselves mentally, nothing is difficult. Shifting from school to college is adopting the change in the mode of education and move on further in the process of learning. She also elucidated in detail about the significance of education for women and their role in the society. She encouraged the students to shed their inhibitions and bring out their latent talents by participating in various events.
Mrs.Pradeepa ASP, Mathematics, PEC, Mrs.Uma, ASP,Maths,PEC and Mr.Prabhurajan, AP Maths,PEC elaborated the topic, ‘Beauty of Mathematics’. In their session, they beautifully explained how mathematics plays an important role in day to day life. They also taught mathematics in simple ways and elucidated its usage in everyday life. They have shown various videos related to mathematics.
Dr.J.MurshithaBanu,Head,FDD, Mrs.M.Malathy AP, FDD,PEC, Mr.Radhakrishnan, SeniorGradeAP, English, PEC Dr.Kulkarni SeniorGrade, AP,Eng/PEC elaborated the essence of “Be Fluent”. They acquainted the students with the skills of English language such as Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. They gave tips to improve one’s Communication skills. In this Session, the students came to know about the importance of English. Dr.D.Bhanumathy, CSE, HoD, PEC, P.Renukadevi, ASP,CSE, PEC delivered on the title “Be liberated, be happy”. In this session, they made everybody to relax and created a stress-free environment. They showed various videos on stress management. They made the students lively and engaged.
Dr.K.Sundaramurthy, Head, IQAC Dr.V.Subburam, Professor, Mechanical, PEC and addressed the students on ‘Time Management’. In their session, they clearly explained about the importance of time and the necessity to manage time for the students to achieve their goal within a stipulated time. Dr.B.Muralibabu, COE, PEC spoke on the title “Autonomous Rules and Regulations”. He briefly discussed about the rules and regulations of Paavai and he gave enumerated the rules of the examination system to the students.
Dr.R.Mohanapriya ASP, ECE, PEC, Ms.Thabitha,AP, FoodTech,PEC Mr.Ponmanian,AP,Pharma,PEC, Mr.M.D.S.Rajaruban,AP,Food Tech, PEC elaborated on the significance of ‘ICT Tools for Learning’. They pointed out the difference between traditional learning and ICT learning resources. They guided students on how to boost their memory and develop memory recall through software resources like Quizlet, Anki and Cram. They listed out the different online learning tools for enhanced learning. They also stressed on Swayam App, online learning courses and asked the students to register in the app.
Mr.Thamaraiselvan, Head Paavai Educational Institutions, Dr.R.Karpagavalli,JuniorHead,P&T, Mrs.Chamundeeswari, ASP,ECE,PEC delivered their speech on ‘Career Opportunities’. They described how to choose a career with clear knowledge. They described clearly about grooming skills, problem solving skills and communication skills. He insisted the students to speak in English without any hesitation to face interview and group discussion. They also created an awareness regarding the recruitment and the expectation of the companies.
Dr.I.Rajendran, Dean- Research and Innovation, PEC, delivered his speech on the topic ‘Inclination towards Projects.’ Sir’s prime objective was to enable the students to understand that research and innovative projects are the need of the hour in the field of academia. He explained the pertinence of projects and added that projects influence their cognizance which will eventually lead them to research initiatives.
Dr.A.Hepsi Rachel Chellarani Principal,PCNR, Dr.S.Benazir, Principal, PPSC,Dr.E. Kamalasekar ASP,PPSC ,Dr.A.SaridhaPrema, VP,PCNR delivered their speech on ‘Life Skills’.They shed light on relevant life skills such as analytical thinking, lateral thinking, communication skills, creative thinking, crisis management, emergency management etc.
Dr.Ravikumar Japanese Trainer, PEC, highlighted the importance of Japanese language. His session was very informative and enjoyable. He also emphasized on the importance of learning this beautiful language which would open up various job opportunities especially in international business, tourism and translation for the students across the world in the near future. Sir’s dedication, patience, passion and commitment have enriched students’ learning experience immensely. Mr.Elavarasan Yoga trainer, Paavai Educational Institutions demonstrated the benefits of various asanas and yoga exercises. He instilled the young minds to stay fit and healthy to have a successful life.
The students’ coordinators of all clubs, highlighted their club activities through a session on “Sharing Experiences of Paavai”. They kindled the students’ interest in joining various clubs which would add on their credentials for their academic growth. Students were taken on a department visit where they were enlightened with the vision and mission of various departments. The Heads of departments clearly explained the functioning of labs through various activities and their accomplishments in achieving it.
Around seventeen topics were handled for six days. Some of the students recorded their feedback. Totally 1421 students benefitted from this programme.
