A Six-day Faculty Development Programme on ‘Emerging Technologies in Information & Telecommunication Engineering’ (FDP-2021) was successfully conducted in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous), Namakkal from 8th to 13th November 2021, organized by the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in association with IETE – Erode center. The FDP programme received an overwhelming response with an overall 86 participants from Paavai Institutions and other institutions. The programme was inaugurated in the forenoon by Mr.K.Kavinkumar, Honorary treasurer, IETE-Erode Center in the presence of Dr. M. Prem kumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, Dr. M.Sudha, Professor and Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The inauguration was followed with the welcome address by Dr. M.Sudha, Professor and Head, ECE department. Dr.M.Prem kumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College delivered his presidential address on the pedagogical aspects of FDP and how it becomes more effective towards student learning among faculty. It also creates the curiosity on pedagogical approach in teaching and learning process. Mr.K.Kavinkumar, Honorary treasurer, IETE-Erode Center delivered his inaugural address on the aspect of technological development in real time scenario. Mr. Boopathi Sakthivel, Founder, CEO & Biomedical Engineer, Prashan Medical Technology, Coimbatore gave his keynote address where he stressed that participants should focus on application of science in addressing various issues as an Engineer. He also cherished the invention of wearable devices which is the base of all technological developments in the world. Dr.R.Mohana Priya, Associate Professor, Department Association coordinator, Mr Sathish, Assistant Professor, Department Event Organizer and Event Organizers Dr.T.Loganayagi, Professor and Dr.R.Pushpavalli, Associate Professor in the department of ECE, Paavai Engineering College, presided over the entire function.
The Speaker of the Day 1 – Boopathi Sakthivel, Founder, CEO & Biomedical Engineer, Parshan Medical Technology, Coimbatore presented the topic on “Wearable Technologies”. He discussed the concept of wearable technology and its growth. He projected the benefits and advancements of this technology and explained how this technology works in our day to day life , devices to monitor our fitness level, tracking location, etc., which are hand free and portable packet devices.
On Day 2, Resource Speaker Dr. G. Ravi, Associate Professor/ECE, Sona College of Technology, Salem presented the topic on “5G in Everyday Life”. He deliberated the evolution of mobile network and benefits of 5G in day to day life and also he explained how 5G technology is used in real life scenario. He discussed the environmental impacts when this is used in smart agriculture and designing aspect. Also, he discussed about next generation mobile network.
On Day 3, Dr. Md Rashid Mahmood, Professor/ECE, Guru Nanak Institutions Technical Campus, Hyderabad, the guest speaker delivered the lecture emphasizing the topic on “Advanced IoT networks”. He projected the clear definition for IoT and its function. He discussed the new phenomenon in IoT like Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs), Cellular (3G/4G/5G), Zigbee and Other Mesh Protocols, Bluetooth and BLE, Wi-Fi, RFID etc. He also explained the IoT adoption with other devices.
On Day 4, Guest Speaker Dr. R. Lalitha, Professor/CSE, Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology, Chennai presented the topic on “Digital Twin Technology”. She discussed the concept of virtual model of digital twin technology and virtual representation. She also stated about the need of Digital Twin technology in communication networking. Also, she discussed various types of Virtual models and future scopes.
On day 5, Dr.V.Agalya, Associate Professor/EEE, CMR Institute of Technology, Bengaluru as resource speaker delivered the topic on “Green Transportation Technologies”. She discussed about various green public transport vehicles including electric buses and electric train which combines the advantages of green vehicles with those of sustainable transport choices. She also projected the working of the transportation. She explained about the various impact which is caused on our environment by the other transport choices like cycling and human powered vehicle and animal powered transport which gives very low impact to the environment.
Last day of this FDP series, Day 6 Guest speaker Dr.M.Packia Sudha, Assistant Professor/EEE, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore presented the topic on “IOT Device Management Techniques”. She explained the integration of IoT device with network and she delivered the importance and requirements for IoT Device Management in mobility management. She shared her experience in teaching methodology and how pupil has made great progress since those pioneering efforts.
Finally, on behalf of ECE department, Mr.S.Loganathan Assistant Professor gave the Vote of thanks along with Dr.M.Sudha, Prfoessor and HoD, ECE department
The objective of the FDP was achieved. The overall session discussion benefitted the faculty members. This FDP would help the participants to get more knowledge about the advancements in telecommunication engineering and also it would help them to get direction in their research area.
