“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow”. The Faculty Development Department organized a six day Inductionprogramme through online mode for the first year students of Paavai Engineering colleges to familiarize them with the culture of the institution, learning techniques,Respect for education, Values,Time-Stress management, and also to prepare them for the Transition from school to college. Paavai is the guiding torch for the youth folk and it is always a student-centric institution and efforts are taken to instill self-confidence, courage in the minds of the students so that they will be successful in their life and career. With this note, the virtual induction programme was conducted from 10.12.2020 to 16.12.2020 in six batches. Each batch consists of nearly 180 students,who attended the induction programme onthese six days.
Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, the Chairman of Paavai Institutions inaugurated the Virtual induction programme at the ‘VivekanadarArangam’ and he spoke about the importance of educationduring this pandemic situation, then he further compared that Paavai is like a kuthuvilaku, that students, parents, teachers, society and the management form the five faces of the education system. Finally, he said that all the students will definitely get good education in this covid situationand willpassout successfully with their degreeand their dream job.Mrs.MangaiNatarajan, the Correspondent, stated that the students should acquaint themselves with this pandemic situation and will adopt the changes in their learning process. She continued that just as a small seed grows into a big tree over the years, the growth of Paavai from a Vithai into a Vriksham was dreamt and visualized by the Chairman at his seventeenth year. From then onwards, the Chairman took careof its luxuriant growth with devotion and dedication.The students who are the pearls of Paavai should therefore incorporate the concept of, ‘Vithai’ into their academic life.. She also focussed that Paavai is known for positivity and hence students should adopt Paavai culture,view the changes as challenges and do the best to come out of this situation.She pointed out the merits and demerits of using mobile phones. She highlighted the significance of the involvement of the parentsas well as the responsibility of the students in fulfilling the educational needs of a society and the nation.
After the virtual inauguration ceremony, technical sessions were held for each batch on the respective dates. The resource persons were Dr. R. KasthuriBai, Dean, Faculty Development Department, Mrs. C.Jayalakshmi, Dean Councelling, Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, PEC, Dr. K.Selvi, Principal PCT,Dr.A.Imanuvel,Principal, PCE,Dr.K.Sundaramurthi, Dean Academics,Dr.A.Suphalakshmi, CSE, HoD, PEC,Mr.Loganathan, Head, Audio-visual, Dr.Shanthi, HoD, English, PEC,Mrs. K.Subashini, Associate professor, Faculty Development Department, Dr.Banumathi, Associate Professor, CSE and Mrs.Manjula, Assistant Professor, Maths .
Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, PEC, Dr.A.Imanuvel, Principal, PCEspoke on the topic, “Achievements of Paavai”. They highlighted the awards, recognitions , won by the students and the faculty members. They went on to explain the facilities and the opportunities available in Paavai Institutions. Dr.R.KasthuriBai, Dean, FDD, focused on the topic, “Respect Education”. She stressed the importance of education,because education gives every individual an identity, employment, respect, status and empowerment. She made the students comprehend that knowledge, attitude and skill play a major role in determining one’s future.Dr.K.Selvi, Principal, PCT focussed on Paavai Culture, Paavai principles, Paavai Mantra and Paavai belief.She further threw light on learning techniques and also she suggested that the students should developexperimenting skills in the field of Engineering Education.
Dr.K.Sundaramurthy, Dean Academics, elaborated the concept of time management. His focal point of talk was how to prioritize the work to reach the goal on time. Dr. Shanthi, HoD, Eng, PEC illustrated the essence of Communication skills. Shefacilitated the students with the basic skills of English language such as, listening, speaking, reading and writing. She reiterated that if one takes care of fluency, accuracy will follow suit.Mr.Loganathan, Head, Audio-visual dept, illustrated with examples, the life skills and their application in day-to-day life. He spoke about the importance of rendering first aid to victims who are in danger. He showed videos pertaining to family values, filial duties and responsibilities. Dr.A.Suphalakshmi, HoD, CSE, PEC listed out the different ICT tools for enhanced learning. She also cited a number of learning resources available on the campus of Paavai.
Mrs.C.Jayalakshmi, Dean counselling spoke on the title, “Transition from school to college”. Shesaid that moving from one phase of life to another phase is difficult. Therefore, while shifting from school to college one should adopt the changes in the mode of pursuing education too.Dr. Bhanumathy, CSE, emphasized the significance of stress management. She elucidated the concept with many examples and videos. Mrs. Manjula, Math, PEC emphasized the Beauty of Mathematics. She further highlighted the Fibonacci sequence and the concept of Golden Ratio. Mrs.K.Subashini, FDD, spoke about the need of value system for the society and the nation at large. She pointed out the fact that human value defines the culture of the man. Each resource person thus dealt with their respective topics in detail and all of them did have an interactive session with the students. Around eleven sessions had been handledby the speakers and the student beneficiaries felt gratified about the induction programme.
