An Online Guest Lecture on the topic “Noise Mitigation Techniques for Supersonic Jets” was organized by the Department of Aeronautical Engineering on September 30, 2024, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Dr. G. Ezhilmaran, Professor, Department of Aeronautical Engineering, Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering, Mangalore, was the guest speaker. The objective of the event was to familiarize students with key noise mitigation techniques for supersonic jets, understand their engineering principles, and discuss their effectiveness in reducing environmental impact.
The welcome address and introduction of the chief guest were delivered by Mr. P. Naveen Kumar, a second-year Aeronautical Engineering student.
In his lecture, Dr. G. Ezhilmaran discussed the current regulatory standards for noise emissions from supersonic aircraft and the challenges of meeting these standards with high-speed aircraft. He highlighted the essential skills required from engineers in the design and fabrication sectors. Additionally, he gave an overview of research into next-generation noise reduction technologies, such as active noise cancellation systems, and explained how noise reduction efforts are integrated with overall aircraft efficiency and performance goals.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. T. Rajeshwari, a third-year Aeronautical Engineering student. The event was convened by Dr. R. Arravind, Professor and Head of the Department, and coordinated by Mr. K. Gokulnath, Assistant Professor.
