The Department of CSE (IoT) organized a guest lecture titled “Machine Learning Algorithms and Their Applications” on 12th September 2024. The event aimed to educate students about the rapidly evolving field of Machine Learning and its algorithms.
The welcome address was delivered by M. J. Neaha Shree, a third-year CSE (IoT) student. Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, gave the presidential address, highlighting the importance of Machine Learning, which enables computers to learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed. T. Senthilkumar, also from third-year CSE (IoT), introduced the resource speaker, Dr. S. S. Aravinth, Associate Professor, Department of CSE, School of Computing (SOC), KL University, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India.
In his lecture, Dr. Aravinth began with an introduction to Machine Learning Algorithms and discussed key concepts such as Machine Learning models, features, and pipelines. He also explained various types of regression and elaborated on algorithms such as decision trees, which offer insights into decision-making, and neural networks, which are powerful in handling high-dimensional data. He covered both supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, giving students practical exposure to Machine Learning applications in real-world scenarios.
A total of 110 students participated in the guest lecture. The session included a Q&A segment where the resource speaker addressed the participants’ queries. The vote of thanks was delivered by S. Vasanthan, a third-year CSE (IoT) student. The event was organized by Dr. M. Rameshkumar, Professor and Head of the Department, along with Mr. S. Sathish, Faculty Coordinator, and student coordinators C. Jayaraman and M. J. Neaha Shree from CSE (IoT). Third and second-year CSE (IoT) students, along with faculty members from the CSE (IoT) department, attended the lecture.
