The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Paavai Engineering College, in association with the Highways Department, Road Safety Wing, Salem, organized an awareness programme on “Road Safety” on March 18, 2025.

The function commenced with a prayer song, invoking God’s blessings, followed by a welcome address by Mr. S. Sivasubra Manikandan, a third-year ECE student.
The event was presided over by Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College. In his presidential address, he emphasized the importance of road safety and the responsibilities of individuals as road users. He highlighted alarming statistics related to road accidents in India and urged students to follow traffic rules diligently.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Tmt. M. Kumutha, who provided insightful information on the causes of road accidents, including reckless driving, overspeeding, drunken driving, and negligence of safety measures. She also explained the role of the government and engineers in designing safer roads and implementing traffic control measures.
The awareness session was presented by Thiru. C. Subramanian, focusing on:
Traffic signals and speed limits
Seat belt and helmet usage
Accident prevention techniques
Safe driving practices
Government initiatives on road safety
The speakers made the session interactive, sharing real-life case studies and engaging the audience in discussions about road safety measures.
The session provided students with an opportunity to clear their queries, making it a highly informative and engaging experience.
The Road Safety Awareness Programme was a highly successful initiative, offering students a deeper understanding of road safety measures and the importance of responsible driving.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. S. Swathi, a third-year CSE student, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, and participants for their active involvement.
The presence of Heads of various Departments, Professors, and Faculty Members contributed to the event’s success. Special appreciation goes to Mr. C. Rathnakumar, NSS Programme Officer, Paavai Engineering College, for organizing the event. The NSS volunteers participated with great enthusiasm and benefited immensely from the awareness programme.
