The Department of Computer Science organized an Alumni Guest Lecture Series on the topic “HOW TO BECOME A DATA SCIENTIST” on 15.02.2023 in kalam’s chamber.
Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College gave the presidential address. He discussed, there is always a healthy competition between CSE department and other engineering fields in terms of placement. Nowadays non IT people learning our core technologies and have been working in IT sectors. He insisted to update our knowledge regularly. A.Ragavi, of second year CSE gave the welcome address. V. Soundariya Lakshmi, of second year CSE gave introduced the Guest speaker. The guest speaker Mr. A. Sanjay Sreekumar, Data scientist, Accolite Digital Pvt. Ltd. (organ stanley) presented an Alumni Guest Lecture Series on the topic “HOW TO BECOME A DATA SCIENTIST “. The objective of this program is to make Engineering graduates to understand the importance of Data Science in this emerging IT world. He discussed about how Big Data and tools are used to sharpen relevant skills in data science. He explained “Tableau” and “PowerBI” which is a data analytics platform that allows you to share big data insights. He also discussed how data scientist can expect to spend time using programming language to sort through, analyse, and manage large chunks of data. He further highlighted important programming languages used for data science include python, R, SQL, SAS. He exampled how to process Big data by using Apache Spark framework. He informed about the fields of finance, Medical sector, Army, and E-commerce employ the more data scientists. He concluded with the difference between Data Analyst, Data Engineer, and Data Scientist. He also added, If one wants to become a data Scientist, he/she must possess the above designation priorly to be qualified data scientist. The Guest Lecture was informative, and the students were motivated for successful plans. P.G Priyadharshini of second year CSE proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 230 students and the faculty members attended the offline seminar.
