The Faculty Development Department organized a six-day Orientation Programme for the recently recruited faculty members to make them familiar with the institutional practices and the instructional strategies of teaching and learning, because teachers are considered to be the pillars of Paavai. The Orientation Programme was held from 11.09.2023 to 16.09.2023 at Smart Hall. 50 faculty members from Paavai Educational Institutions attended the Orientation Programme.
The inaugural ceremony was held at Smart hall on 11.09.2023, Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan Chairman, Paavai Educational Institutions delivered the Presidential Address. Sir highlighted that teachers should be exemplary role models who should create an active learning environment in the classrooms. He also stressed on the cardinal role of the faculty members to equip their students with the required skill sets, which will enable students to thrive in the real world.Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent Madam felicitated the gathering. Madam reiterated the fact that faculty members should update their knowledge and keep abreast of the latest happenings in their area of specialization. They should kindle in students the thirst to become life-long learners. She added that Teachers and Students should be collaborators in the classrooms. Dr.J.Murshitha Banu Professor, FDD welcomed the gathering.
The objectives and methodology of the orientation programme were read out by Mrs.M.Malathy AP, FDD. After the inauguration, the technical sessions commenced. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan Chairman, Paavai Educational Institutions, Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, Director Administration, Paavai Educational Institutions, Mrs.C.Jayalakshmi, Dean Counseling, Dr.M.PremKumar, Principal, PEC, Dr.B.Murali Babu, CoE, Dr,K.Selvi, Dean Academics,PEC Dr.I.Rajendran , Dean Research and Innovation,PEC, Dr.J.Murshitha Banu Professor, FDD, Mrs.M.Malathy,AP,FDD, Dr.D.Bhanumanthy, HoD/CSE, Dr.Mohanapriya, ASP/ECE, and Mr.Elavarasan, Yoga Trainer were the resource persons for the programme who shed light on pertinent topics such as, ‘Paavai on the Path of Progress’ , ‘Be Ethical’ ,‘Teachers are the Real Parents’, ‘Attitude, Skill and Knowledge’ , ‘Paavai Culture’, , ‘Inclination towards Research’, ‘Triple S relationship’, ‘Pedagogy of Teaching and Learning’, ‘Be Fluent’ ‘Be Liberated, Be Happy’, ‘Smart Teaching’ and ‘Yoga and Meditation’.
Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan Chairman conducted the session on the topic entitled “Paavai on the Path of Progress”. Sir started with the history of all Paavai Educational Institutions and showed the upward trajectory of Paavai. The growth of Paavai was the result of contributions from all the stakeholders. Paavai faculty members should be an embodiment of qualities such as commitment, empathy, knowledge, caring etc. Students should be harnessed to become icons of Modern India with traditional roots. All the students should set their eyes on the peak with clear goals to become winners all the way.
Mrs.Jayalakshmi, Dean, Counseling, illustrated that “Teachers are Real Parents” by citing various lifetime incidents. She shared her experiences to deal with the slow learners in the classroom. Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, Director Administration, expounded on the different roles and responsibilities of the teachers. He advocated the practical methods of teaching to reach out to the students of all categories. He also stressed the importance of observation skill which should be developed by the teachers. He highlighted that knowledge of the fundamentals, good communication skills, keen observation and a pleasant attitude should be practiced by the teachers to improve their teaching skills. Various examples related to different branches of study and environments were explained. Dr.K.Selvi, Dean, Academics, PEC explained the significance of Paavai Culture, Paavai Mantra and Paavai beliefs. Dr.M.PremKumar, Principal, PEC, emphasized the importance of developing a right attitude to serve as worthy members of Paavai. He explained that. ‘One’s attitude determines one’s Altitude’. Dr.B.Murali Babu, CoE elaborated on the significance of ‘Triple S relationship’. He stated that the relationship of a faculty member with the students, other staff members, and superiors should have the line of boundary to maintain a healthy relationship. Dr.J.Murshitha Banu Professor, FDD emphasized the pedagogy of teaching and learning. She further highlighted the different strategies and techniques of teaching and learning to make the classroom interactive and interesting.
Dr.I.Rajendran, Dean Research and Innovation,PEC through his topic ‘Inclination towards Research’ stressed on the importance of research, which will elevate the status of Paavai Institutions in the field of academia. Dr.D.Bhanumathy, HoD, CSE explained the Be Liberated, Be Happy with various activities. Mrs.M.Malathy AP, FDD elaborated on the importance of English language and communication skills. She further highlighted the various skills for developing English language. Dr.Mohanapriya, ASP, ECE explained the importance of Smart Teaching. She directed the faculty members to make use of online teaching resources.She engaged the participants using online tools to make learning effective. Mr.Elavarasan, Yoga Trainer demonstrated the various asanas and yoga exercises.
Each resource person explained, elaborated and had an interactive session with the faculty members. Around twelve topics were handled during the sessions. Throughout the orientation, the members were facilitated to hone their LSRW skills. Every faculty member gave a model presentation of their teaching units and feedback was given to enhance their teaching skills. Different kinds of activities such as ice breaker, debate, group activities were also conducted to motivate the teachers. The programme thus catered to the needs of the inductees and the Faculty Development Department expressed its willingness to be with them as and when required.
The Valedictory function was held on 16.09.2023 at Smart Hall at 02.00 pm. All the faculty members recorded their feedback. Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the teachers. Sir instilled indelible noble values in the minds of teachers and stressed on the importance of incorporating effective and innovative teaching strategies to bring about a phenomenal change in classrooms. Ms. Lakshmi Pavithra, Tutor, PIAHS proposed the vote of thanks.
