CNC (Computer numerical control) machines are automated machine tools controlled by programming commands for increased consistency and quality over manual operations. They are used for various machining operations like milling, Turning, Grinding and other machining operations. Ours is a CNC vertical milling machine having latest features.
★ This milling machine has vertically oriented spindle that approaches work pieces mounted on their table from above and commonly perform 3-axis machining operations. ★ The spindle speed of this machine is 6000 rpm. It has an automatic tool changer with the storage capacity of 20 numbers of tools. ★ The machine works with the accuracy of 0.010 mm and has a repeatability accuracy of ±0.003 mm. ★ This machine has advanced CNC capabilities with FANUC programming control. ★ Ancillary equipment is also available to increase the flexibility and capability of these machines, including angle heads, quick-change work-holding devices among others. |
BENEFITS
• 3 axis capabilities for infinite possibilities to process different shapes. • Temperature stability through integral cooling. • On-board probing for part location and feature inspection with the cutting cycle. • User-friendly CNC controls simplify the programming and increase productivity. • Pallet changers that increase spindle utilization and reduce part cycle times. • These machines can be employed for Mass production. • Minute components can be produced with high accuracy. • It can also perform large machining operations. • Automobile, Aero space and other Machinery components that require close tolerances can be produced. • Hands-on Training in this machine to students will get them lucrative job offers. |
Commercial works carried out in the VMC
Production of components required for Aero industry · The VMC facility has been utilized to produce the following components by Mssrs. Aero Space Private Ltd., Mallur, Salem District – 636203 (Also called The Salem Aeropark). Thrust Wire Nut ( Spec: AMS – 4928) Rubber Black (Made of Lexan Black). Research works carried out in the Vertical Machining Centre: · Performance Study of End Milling of Aluminium under MQL The final year Mechanical Engineering students, Mr. Sukumar, Mr.Venkateshwaran.D, Mr. Mohanraj and Premkumar have done a research project using Vertical Machinig Centre. Project outline: The project studies the effect of vegetable oil under Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) during end milling of Aluminium. The experiments were conducted in dry, wet and MQL conditions. A MultiLayer Perception (MLP) was developed to predict surface roughness. The MQL was found to be good alternative for Wet machining. · Friction Welding of Stainless Steel 304 Mr.S.Manoj, ME student from Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai carried out project in VMC to study the performance of SS 304 under Friction Stir Welding process. Project outline: SS 304 strips of 3 mm were clamped against each other in the fixture which is clamped in the machine bed. Tungsten alloy tool was plunged against the joint for 0.5 – 1 mm and once they become red, the plunger was moved longitudinally till the end at the rate of 20 – 40 mm per minute. The finished weld looked good without any weld mark. |
