The Department of English, Paavai Engineering College organized a one-day webinar on “Enhancing Communication Skills and Easing Language Barrier” on 14th July 2021. Viswadheja of first year Computer Science delivered the welcome address. Roshan Kumar from first year Biomedical introduced the keynote speaker of the day. The Keynote Speaker for the day was Mr. J. Michael Raj, Assistant Professor (Selection Grade), Department of English and Foreign Languages, SRM Institute of Science and Technology. He delivered a deep analysis of how English is important for engineering students to achieve a global reach and even expand their knowledge on their field as many researches are presented in English. He also stressed upon the lack of proper language training as many students even after years of training in the school still struggle to strike up a conversation. He gave some effective ways to improve language skills. Dr. Michael Raj expanded on how confidence and practice can make or break one’s language learning. He also addressed various barriers that make learning a language difficult and also showed ways to tackle everyone of them. After his lecture, a Q&A session with the participants was conducted followed by this Pragarsha of first year Computer Science delivered vote of thanks to the gathering. From the data collected through feedback, it is evident that student gained motivation and innovative methods to learn English from the session.
