The Department of Cyber Security organized a two days National level workshop hands-on “MASTERING THE ART OF PENETRATION TESTING” on 17.3.2023 and 18.3.2023 Mr.T.Prabakaran, Regional Manager, Livewire, Chennai, preluded the workshop and the importance of penetration testing in the career of a cyber-security professional. Mr.M.Vignesh and Mr.V.Pugalenthi, Technical Trainers, Cyber security Analyst, Chennai were the Guest speakers. Ben Garry, III Year Cyber security introduced the resource persons,
Dr.Selvi, Dean Academics gave the presidential address and honoured the trainers with a memento. The trainers discussed about basics of penetration testing, from the use of network reconnaissance tools to the writing of custom zero-day buffer overflow exploits. The goal of this workshop is to help students to master a repeatable, documentable penetration testing methodology that can be used in an ethical penetration testing or hacking situation. They also emphasized on Phases of hacking, Types of hackers, Difference between pen testing and hacking, Digital forensics basics, Networking basics, Linux basics and Linux installation, Recong ng tool, Jhon the ripper – password cracking tool, Virus total tool, Ht tracer tool, Crunch-password generator tool N map – for port scanning, Autopsy – forensic tool introduction, Wire shark – monitor data packets and traffic. The valedictory function was conducted on 18.3.2023.Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College addressed the importance of attending hands-on workshops and motivated students to be interactive to come up with smart solutions in cyber security related breaches. He also emphasized about improving the skillsets. Dr.P.Muthusamy Head of the Department, Cyber security, Master of Computer Applications motivated the students in improving their talents and highlighted that penetration testing training course has a significant return on investment if students walk out the door with hacking skills that are highly in demand. On the whole this workshop was an eye opener to make Engineering graduates aware of Cyber security and job opportunities, improving the domain knowledge .A total of 180 students participated in this workshop. Students from various colleges participated in the workshop and experienced real time pen testing. The session was interactive and students gained knowledge on different testing methods to identify vulnerabilities and data protection. Both the internal and external participants shared their feedback, that the workshop was interactive with hands-on experience. The function came to an end with vote of thanks.
