The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with Resource Club organized a Guest Lecture titled “Applications of 3D Printing” on 12.04.2023 to make students aware of the new developments in the field of 3D Printing.
Dr. M.Kathirselvam, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, K.S.Rangasamy College of Technology, Thiruchengode was the resource speaker. Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College delivered the presidential address. Mr.M.Mugilraj, II Year Mechanical student, welcomed the gathering and Mr.V.Sathishkumar, II Year Mechanical student, did the Master of Ceremony. The Chief Guest was introduced to the gathering by Mr,J.Naveenkumar, III Year Mechanical student. Dr.S.Maniraj, Associate Professor coordinated the program. Dr.A.P.Sivasubramaniam, Head of the Department along with faculty members showed active involvement in the program.
In his Presidential speech, the Principal explained how 3D printing technology is growing rapidly across various branches of engineering, Mechanical engineering students should update their skills and knowledge to become competent in the fast changing world.
The Chief Guest delivered his speech with Power Point Presentation and thoroughly explained various aspects of 3D printing like evolution, materials used, different 3D technologies, software available for making 3D digital design, companies involved in 3D Printing and growth of 3D printing in India. He also explained the materials involved in 3D printing such as papers, plastics, metals, bio-materials, grapheme, composites and the working principle of various 3D technologies like Stereolithography, Selective Laser Sintering, Fusion Deposition Modelling, Inkjet printing etc. He showed and explained a lot of 3D printed products like cars, house along with complicated shapes that could not be fabricated in any other process. He also interacted with the students and cleared their doubts.
The program was a beneficial one for a large number of students by updating knowledge on an emerging technology. At the end of the program, Mr.K.Kalaiselvan, II Year Mechanical student delivered the vote of thanks.
