An Alumni Guest Lecture was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engieering Department in association with the Resource Club on the topic of “INDIAN NAVY – A WAY OF LIFE” on 03.01.2023 at Kalam’s Chamber, delivered by Mr.Arun Ravindran, Lieutenant Commander, Indian Navy, DRDO, Balasore, Orissa. In the inaugural function of the Guest Lecture, Dr.M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, Mr.S.Dinakaran, HoD-First Year, Dr.A.P.Sivasubramaniam, Head of the Mechanical Engineering department and faculty members took part along with the students. Mr.J.Naven kumar, third year Mechanical student took care of the MC for the program.The Final year Mechanical Engineering students, K.Sham welcomed the gathering and S.Sivalingam introduced the alumi Chief Guest.
The principal in his Presidential address told that people serving in the defence forces, risking their lives for our country are our real heroes. And further said that students should come forward to join Indian defence services as there are huge scope for engineers to serve in different technical positions.He further urged the students to avail this opporturnity to gather as much information as possitble from the alumi serving as Lieutenant Commander in Indian Navy who can provide first hand information.
The alumnus Mr. Arun Ravindran went down the memory lane and remembered his college days in Paavai campus when he was the secretary of Society of Mechanical Engineers and organized Symposiums actively.
The Lieutenant Commander spoke elaborately about various aspects of Indian Navy and used videos and Power Point presentations to drive home his points. He told that Navy Officers are personally appointed by the President of India. He explained different dimensions of Indian Navy which included India’s Maritime Heritage, Sea dependence for – security/commerce/Transportation, Offshore Oil production/Fisheries, Port Development, Organisational structure, Operational Commands, Training, Branches of Navy, Naval Education, Variety of ships inducted in Navy like Vikramaditya/ Vikrant/Destroyers/Frigates/ Missile Corvettes/Patrol ships/Fighter Aircrafts/Patrol aircrafts/ Helicopers/Submarines and the technical advancements associated with the above aspects. He also explained the lifestyle of Navy personnel at Sea and Submarines, narrating some personal experiences. He further explained the job opportunities to engineering students in different sections of Navy and the application procedure along with website URL. Throughout the session he interacted with the students, clearing their doubts and urging them to join defence forces.
The Guest Lecture was coordinated by the Mechanical Engineering faculties Dr.V.Subburam, Mr. J.Sujith Kumar and Dr.C.Suresh. The students were found inspired by the Lieutenant Commander’s speech. Mr.S.M.R.Rajeswaran, Third year Mechanical Engineering student delivered the Vote of Thanks.
