The Department of Biotechnology conducted Guest lecture on the topic “Biotech Breakthrough: The Power of Biosensors” on 13th June 2024. The Resource person was Mr.S.Samraj (Ph.D, IIT-Delhi), Assistant Professor, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore. The meeting was convened by Dr.C.Nirmala, Head of the Department of Biotechnology. Dr.V.S Ramakrishna Ganduri, Professor, Department of Biotechnology and Mr.Sethupathy, II year Biotechnology coordinated the event. Mr.Santhosh, Biotechnology II year hosted the event and gave the welcome address. The session started with the brief profile introduction of the esteemed guest by Ms.C.Santhiya, II year Biotechnology. The resource person Mr. Samraj started the lecture with a brief introduction to biosensors, covering their fundamental principles and discussing various types. The lecture highlighted transformative impact of biosensors across healthcare, environmental monitoring, and beyond, underscoring their pivotal role in advancing scientific innovation. The lecture delved into the incorporation of nano- biosensors into biosamples, highlighting their significant role in improving detection sensitivity and precision in environmental applications. A comprehensive overview of sensor applications in agriculture, highlighting their role in modern farming practices was provided. He emphasized how sensors enable precision agriculture by providing real-time data on soil conditions and crop health. The seminar also featured interactive sessions where participants had the opportunity to engage directly within the speaker, ask questions, and share their own experiences and insights. More than 55 students attended the session. It was a thought feeding session and concluded by answering the queries of students followed by vote of thanks given by Ms.Yuvashri , IInd year Biotechnology student. The insights gained have deepened the appreciation for the potential of biosensors to revolutionize diverse industries and address pressing global challenges.
