The Department of Cyber Security, in association with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC-PEC), successfully organized a Workshop on Business Model Canvas (BMC) on 29th and 30th April 2025 at Cute Hall, Paavai Engineering College.
The resource person for the workshop was Mr. N. Selvaraju, Senior Technical Lead – Global Cyber Security (IAM) at Trianz Digital Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. The event commenced with a welcome address by S. Srija, a second-year Cyber Security student, followed by the introduction of the resource person by K. Varuna, also a second-year Cyber Security student.
Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of acquiring entrepreneurial and strategic thinking along with technical knowledge in today’s competitive landscape. Dr. P. Muthusamy, Head of the Department of Cyber Security, encouraged students to think innovatively and align their technical skills with practical applications.
Mr. Selvaraju conducted an engaging and informative session on the Business Model Canvas, explaining its nine key components — customer segments, value propositions, channels, revenue streams, cost structure, key activities, key resources, key partners, and customer relationships. He illustrated the practical applications of these components using real-world startup examples and interactive discussions, helping students understand how to transform ideas into viable business plans. He also emphasized the importance of having a basic understanding of business models for cybersecurity professionals entering the tech industry or building their own ventures.
The objective of the workshop was to foster entrepreneurial thinking and strategic planning skills among the students, equipping them to apply tools like the Business Model Canvas (BMC) in real-world contexts. A total of 110 students actively participated in the workshop and provided positive feedback, appreciating the interactive and practical nature of the session.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by B. Vaishnavi, a second-year Cyber Security student. Overall, the workshop was a resounding success, leaving the participants inspired and better prepared to tackle industry challenges.
