The Institution’s Innovation Council of Paavai Engineering College organized a seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” on 9th May 2025. The resource person for the session was Mrs. M. Kiruthikha, M.E., (Ph.D.), Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Sona College of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. She is also a former banker and a UPSC aspirant.
The guest lecture was coordinated by Dr. T. Arun Kumar, along with Dr. S. Rajasekaran and other faculty members. Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, delivered the Presidential Address on the occasion.
Mr. V. M. Neeraj, a third-year Biomedical Engineering student, introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. M. Kiruthikha.
During the seminar, the guest speaker shared her in-depth knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) with the students and faculty members, supported by practical examples. She explained the differences between Design Thinking and Innovation Design, and also highlighted various government and private funding schemes available to support innovation-based initiatives.
She further elaborated on how one can become an entrepreneur through innovation design, and how a patent can be transformed into a startup. She also cited inspiring examples of how even school students are capable of coming up with innovative ideas that can lead to patent filings.
The session was highly energetic, interactive, and informative, with enthusiastic participation from the audience. She also addressed and answered the queries raised by the students.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. A. Sahaana Shree, a third-year Biomedical Engineering student of Paavai Engineering College.
