A practical session on Paddy Nursery Management was conducted on 10 July 2025 at the M.S. Swaminathan Vayal Kudam, Paavai Campus, as part of the Paavai Organic Farming initiative.
The program was led by Dr. B. Kailashkumar, Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, who provided detailed guidance on sustainable nursery practices for achieving high-yielding paddy crops.
The event was organized by Er. U. Karthickeya, Lecturer, Farm Superintendent, and Paavai Organic Farming Coordinator, in association with Mr. R. Gopikrishnan, Teaching Research Associate (Agriculture). Mr. M. Sakthivel, a distinguished alumnus of the Department of Agriculture, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The session covered essential topics such as seed selection and treatment, soil bed preparation, organic nutrient management, water regulation, weed control, and transplantation techniques. A live demonstration was conducted to provide participants with hands-on experience.
Students from the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Paavai Engineering College, and the Department of Agricultural Technology, Paavai Polytechnic College, actively participated in the program. The event effectively combined traditional agricultural wisdom with modern organic methods, thereby enhancing the practical competencies of the participants.
