An online guest lecture on the topic “Recent Advancements in Sheet Metal Forming” was conducted on 09.09.2025 by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The session featured
Dr. Sathiya Narayanan, a distinguished Professor from NIT Trichy, who is widely recognized for his expertise in the field of manufacturing and metal forming technologies. The lecture aimed to expose students and faculty to the latest developments in sheet metal forming processes, bridging the gap between academic concepts and industrial applications.
He began the session with an overview of traditional forming techniques before delving into recent advancements such as Incremental Sheet Forming (ISF), hydroforming, the role of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in process modeling, and the growing integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning for optimizing forming parameters.
He also addressed the practical challenges associated with high-strength materials and shared insights from cutting-edge research and case studies conducted at NIT Trichy. The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in the Q&A segment, where they not only clarified their doubts but also discussed their ongoing project ideas and received valuable suggestions and guidance from Dr. Narayanan. The lecture proved to be highly informative and inspiring, fostering greater interest in advanced manufacturing technologies among the participants.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt appreciation to the guest Dr. Sathiya Narayanan for his time, knowledge, and engagement, and acknowledging the efforts of Mr. R. Mohanraj and Mr.T.Sathees for successfully coordinating and organizing the webinar.
