A one-day Online FDP on the title “Civil Engineering Applications of IOT and AI” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in association with Paavai Civil Engineering Association & Institution Innovation Council (IIC), Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous) on 11.09.2025. Mr.P.Vignesh, AP/Civil welcomed the gathering & Mrs. S.Rajeswari, AP/Civil gave the Chief Guest introduction.
Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, delivered his presidential address on the theme “Civil Engineering Applications of IoT and AI”. He highlighted the significance of integrating smart technologies in civil engineering and emphasized the emerging opportunities for civil engineers in smart infrastructure, sustainable development, and global career prospects.
Prof. K. Sharmiladevi, Head of the Department, introduced the speaker and gave an overview of “Civil Engineering Applications of IoT and AI”.
Dr.R.N.Devendrakumar, B.E., M.Tech., Ph.D., M.B.A., TNSET, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, Coimbatore was the resource speaker. He explained about IoT and AI are transforming Civil Engineering by enabling smart infrastructure monitoring, predictive maintenance, and efficient construction management. Through IoT sensors, engineers can track real-time data on structural health, traffic, water, and energy systems, while AI helps analyze patterns for decision-making and risk prediction. These technologies improve safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness in projects. Their integration supports the development of smart cities and future-ready infrastructure solutions.
Prof.K.Sharmiladevi, HoD/Civil, Mrs.S.Rajeswari, AP/Civil and Mr.P.Vignesh, AP/Civil Faculty coordinators along with faculty members, and around 92 faculties from various colleges were participated in the FDP.
Finally the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof.K.Sharmiladevi, HoD/Civil and our one day FDP was successfully concluded. The session was very informative and knowledgeable.
