The Department of ECE and CSE (IoT) in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council and IE(I), Paavai Engineering College, organized a Guest Lecture on “Edge AI for Automotive: Computer Vision and Self-Driving Design” on 26.09.2025. The lecture aimed to provide students with a strong foundation in Edge AI and its applications in computer vision for autonomous vehicles. It focused on the system design aspects of self-driving cars, including sensors, embedded platforms, and AI algorithms, which effectively bridged concepts from the ECE and IoT domains.
The Welcome Address was given by K. Jesika, II Year ECE, and the resource speaker introduction was delivered by G. Madhuvarshini, III Year ECE. In the Presidential Address, Dr. K.K. Ramasamy, Director–Administration, urged students to cultivate the habit of observing technology in their everyday surroundings. He emphasized that by noticing how technology is applied in various contexts, students can better understand its practical impact and relevance to real-world applications. Mr.S.Prasannakumar Technical Lead, Chennai, Mr.M.K.Kannan Centre Head, Live Wire Salem, Mr.Navaneethan Centre Manager, Livewire Salem and Sudarshan R Pillai Head Livewire were the Guests. Mr.S.Prasannakumar, in his Keynote Address, he shared valuable applications of embedded and IoT systems integrated with cloud services.
The Guest Lecture commenced with an interactive session where students gained hands-on experience in designing and deploying embedded systems. Around 220 participants attended the session. They gained a solid understanding of Edge AI, Computer Vision, and TinyML concepts applied to the automotive domain and hands-on experience in drowsiness detection using microcontrollers and single-board computers.
The session ended with a Vote of Thanks by S. Sathiya, III Year ECE. Dr. R. Mohana Priya, HoD, ECE, and Dr. M. Rameshkumar, HoD, CSE (IoT), were the conveners. The event was organized by Mrs. N. Gangarani, AP/ECE Mrs. R. Bhuvaneshwari, AP/ECE and Dr. R. Sivakumar, AP/CSE (IoT).
