A one-day hands-on training workshop titled “Automated Machine Learning Applications in Civil Industry using Power BI and Google Teachable Machine” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in association with the Paavai Civil Engineering Association, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous) on 25th October 2025.
Ms. Jannathul Roshni, a third-year student, welcomed the gathering, and Mr. Sunil Kumar, a third-year student, introduced the chief guest.
Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, delivered the presidential address, in which he elaborated on automated machine learning and its wide range of applications. Prof. K. Sharmiladevi, Head of the Department, introduced the resource speaker and gave an overview of Power BI and Google Teachable Machine.
Mr. Arunjit Chowdhury, CEO of Enterprise Building Training Solutions, Mumbai, served as the resource person for the workshop. He explained that Microsoft Power BI is a powerful data visualization and business intelligence tool that enables civil engineers to convert raw data into meaningful insights. The applications discussed included construction project monitoring, structural health monitoring, quality control, and sustainability reporting. He provided hands-on training to the students using Power BI software effectively.
He also introduced the Google Teachable Machine (GTM) tool, which allows users to train AI models using images, audio, or poses without the need for coding. He concluded the session by explaining its civil engineering applications, such as defect detection, safety compliance, material classification, and automation in quality testing.
Prof. K. Sharmiladevi (HoD/Civil), Mr. M. Rajkannan (AP/Civil), and Mrs. B. Kiruthika (AP/Civil) coordinated the workshop along with other faculty members. Around 75 participants actively took part in the training.
Finally, the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. S. Aarthi Kumari, a second-year student. The one-day hands-on training workshop was successfully concluded. The session was highly informative and enriched the participants with valuable knowledge.
