The Pongal Function was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 10 January 2026 at the M.S. Swaminathan Vayal Kudam, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Paavai Engineering College. The event highlighted the cultural, traditional, and agricultural significance of Pongal and emphasized gratitude towards nature, farmers, cattle, and the Sun God. The celebration aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of agriculture, encourage student participation in cultural activities, and provide a joyful and inclusive environment.
The programme was meticulously organized by Paavai Velaan Mandram, Paavai Organic Farming, and the Paavai Gardening Committee with the support of faculty members. The venue was attractively decorated with traditional kolams, sugarcane, banana plants, earthen pots, flowers, and agricultural produce, reflecting the cultural ethos of Tamil Nadu. The inaugural session was graced by the Chairman, Correspondent, and other senior administrators and faculty members, and the programme commenced with a prayer and welcome address highlighting the significance of Pongal.
The celebration included cultural programmes such as folk dances, Tamil songs, skits, and poetry recitations that showcased rural life, farming traditions, and environmental values. Traditional games like Uriyadi, Musical Chair, and Pot Breaking were conducted, and winners were appreciated with prizes to promote participation and sportsmanship. Dignitaries delivered special addresses on the importance of agriculture, sustainable farming practices, and the dignity of farmers.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff, creating a festive atmosphere and strengthening interpersonal bonds. The programme enhanced awareness of Tamil culture and traditional festivals, increased respect for farmers and agricultural practices, improved student involvement in cultural activities, and strengthened teamwork and leadership skills.
