A Mushroom Production Unit was formally inaugurated on 10 January 2026 at the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Paavai Engineering College, in collaboration with Paavai Velaan Mandram and Paavai Organic Farming. The establishment of the unit forms part of the institution’s continuous efforts to strengthen outcome-based education by integrating experiential learning, hands-on cultivation techniques, and skill-oriented training in agricultural engineering.
The unit was inaugurated by Shri CA. N. V. Nadarajan, Founder and Chairman, Paavai Educational Institutions, along with Thirumathi Mangai Nadarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Educational Institutions.
The inaugural programme was conducted in the august presence of Dr. K. K. Ramasamy, Director – Administration, Paavai Educational Institutions; Dr. K. Selvi, Dean (Academics), Paavai Engineering College; Dr. Ezhli, Senior Principal, Paavai Arts and Science College for Women; and Dr. B. Kailashkumar, Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering. Faculty members and students of the department actively participated in the event.
The Mushroom Production Unit is envisaged as a dedicated facility for providing hands-on training in spawn production, substrate preparation, sterilization techniques, incubation management, fruiting body cultivation, post-harvest handling, and quality control. The unit aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices, agri-entrepreneurial competencies, self-employment, and entrepreneurial skills among students, thereby enhancing their technical expertise, employabili ty, and potential as future agripreneurs.
