An alumni guest lecture on the topic of “Engineering Metallurgy and Manufacturing Processes” was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 16.09.2019 in Paavai Engineering College at Kalam chambers. An alumni of our college Mr. M.Muni Raj, Manager- Ferrous Applications,Magma Engineering India Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad was the chief guest and delivered the special lecture. The programme was presided over by Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College. Prof.A.P.Sivasubramaniam, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, Paavai Engineering College and faculty members took part and graced the occasion. Ms.K.Subasri, final year Mechanical Engineering student welcomed the gathering and Mr. B. Vigneshwaran, final year Mechanical Engineering student introduced the chief guest. Dr.M.Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, in his presidential address urged that the students have to work hard to succeed in the job market. He insisted that, just desire and dream would not help, it is only the devotion towards our work, family, society that ultimately brings success for us. One can achieve higher positions in life through hard work and devotion irrespective of being talented or not. He also told that the alumni speaker was an expert in the field of foundry and could provide lot of inputs on present scenario in casting industries such as casting simulation software, advancements in foundry and employability requirements which would be helpful to the students to know about the outside world. He further stressed that the students should not miss such opportunities to enrich their academic and career related knowledge. The chief guest in his lecture explained through power point presentations as how ferrous materials are used in the casting processes along with their properties. He also described different types of casting techniques with examples, how simulation software is used in the casting industry for optimization, improving quality and design and reducing cost. The video clippings he used were very effective and received well by the students.He shared his industrial experience with the students and advised them to stick in a job at least for three year and learn the basics without worrying about the hardships which will bring them success in the later years. He further told the students have to self-monitor themselves on daily-basis, monthly-basis etc to improve their knowledge and skill to achieve success in career and life. The lecture was well received with interaction. Mr.R.Visnu, final year Mechanical Engineering student delivered the Vote of Thanks.
