The Department of MCA organized a one day workshop on ‘IoT Applications Design: Issues and Challenges’ on 24th January 2019. Dr.L.Arockiam, Dean & Professor, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Trichy and Dr. S.S. Manikandasaran, Dean and Assistant Professor, Department of MCA, Christhu Raj Institute of Computer Applications, Trichy were the resource persons of the workshop. The session started on a divine note with a prayer song. Ms. S.Soundarya of II MCA welcomed the gathering. The function was presided over by Dr. K.K.Ramasamy, Director-Administrator, Paavai Educational Institutions. Dr.K.K.Ramasamy, in his presidential address, stressed the importance of keeping oneself abreast of latest developments in one’s field thereby improving lateral thinking to create innovations. He emphasized that students should practice and improve their communication skills in order to communicate effectively during interviews successfully. Finally, he insisted on the students to be familiar with the interdisciplinary domains. The chief guest, Dr.L.Arockiam, in his keynote address, instructed the students to enrich their knowledge with the Internet of Things (IoT) technology and get exposed to successful career opportunities around the world. In the opening session, he briefed the students about the Internet Revolution, Impact of Internet, IoT Introduction, Emerging Architecture of IoT and Layers of IoT. Session 2 dealt with “Cloud IoT” handled by Dr. S.S. Manikandasaran, Dean and Assistant Professor, Department of MCA, Christhu Raj Institute of Computer Applications, Trichy. He gave some detailed information about Creating platform for intelligent IoT services, accelerating business agility and decision making with IoT data, Cloud reference architecture and Cloud IoT Core concepts with examples. Session 3 was about “IoT Technologies” handled by Mr. R. Stephen, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Trichy. He gave detailed information about Backbone of IoT, Sensors, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Near Field Communication (NFC), Ethernet, Bluetooth, WiFi and Wireless concepts with examples. Session 4 concentrates on “IoT Connections” handled by Ms. Sathya Priya, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Trichy. She described elaborately about IoT Connectivity, Network/communication technologies, From Bluetooth and NFC to WiFi and ZigBee, Cellular IoT, LPWA(N) and so on. Session 5 on “IoT Security & App Demonstration”, was taken by Mr.V.A.Jane, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Trichy. He explained in detail about the various Issues of IoT and the methods to overcome from these issues. Finally, he demonstrated IoT principles with Apps. The sessions were completely interactive and the queries of the students were clearly clarified by the resource persons. The outcome of the one day workshop was that the students were able to understand the Internet of Things concepts and can do innovations in the IoT devices and their applications to our environment.The Introduction of the chief guest was given by Ms. M.Vaishali of II MCA. The function concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms.A.Porkodi, II MCA. Heads of various Departments, Professors, and Faculty members actively participated in the progamme and made it a grand success. Students from various Arts and Science colleges located in Salem and Namakkal and the whole MCA department participated with full zeal and was benefitted by this programme.
