A guest lecture on “Development of Composites and Nano-Composite Materials Utilizing Particles and Fibers” was organized on 24.01.19 at Cute Hall organized by the department of Mechatronics Engineering, Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal. Dr.M. Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, presided over the inaugural function. Mr. Gobi.R, III-year Mechatronics Engineering, welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Rajasekar, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kongu Engineering College, Erode, was the Chief Guest. Mr.D.R.P.Rajarathnam, Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Department graced the occasion. Presidential address was given by Dr.M. Premkumar. He enlightened students, guests and faculty members with current trends in industries and place of composite material in day to day life. He also gave detailed information about how different types of materials are used and what innovations are done in a field of material science. He also emphasized the importance of research activities in the institute with a more focus on new technology development in emerging areas. The Chief Guest, Dr. R. Rajasekar started the talk with giving an introduction about the composites and nano composite and its various applications in the field such as automobile, medical, agricultural, automotive, building construction, railway, etc. His talk also focused on the various combinations of nanomaterials and matrix materials which were used to fabricate the nanocomposite laminates with and without fiber. He listed down many new technologies include electric discharge machining, laser machining, electrochemical machining and focused ion beam milling for composites fabrications. These technologies involve different physical mechanisms, yield different results, and are applicable indifferent situations. The students understood the basic concepts of composites and nanocomposites. About 100 students from II, III and IV years attended the lecture. It was useful to the students as it gave them the idea of nano science and technology. The lecture was followed by a question answer session. In the end, Mr. B. Nithish Kumar, Third year Mechatronics proposed the vote of thanks.
