Department of English, Paavai Engineering College organized a three day online Faculty Development Programme on ‘AI serves the purpose of Learning a Language’ from 18-08-25 to 20-08-25 ( Monday through Wednesday ) at 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm through Google meeting platform.
110 participants from various institutions across Tamilnadu attended the online FDP. Day one (18-08-25) session was inaugurated by the Professor & Head of the department of English Dr. R. Shanthi. Resource person of the day was Dr. N. K. Vivekanandhan, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Government College of Engineering (Autonomous), Salem. He presented his ideas on the topic ‘ Influence of Artificial Intelligence among Language Learners’. He introduced the essential AI Tools for Language Educators such as ‘Grammarly’, ‘Quillbot’, ‘ChatBard’, ‘Duolingo’ and ‘Hemingway’ during his session. The meeting was well attended by the participants.
Day two (19-08-25) session was handled by Dr. S.Snekha Sri, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Periyar University, Salem. She presented her presentation on ‘ Transformation of lively classes through AI Tools’ and this session was fantastically presented by her and her ideas were well received by 110 participants. She introduced several AI Tools such as ‘Gemini’, ‘Gamma AI’, ‘NotebookLM’, ‘QuestionWell’ and ‘Brisk Teaching’ for transforming the traditional classes into lively classes.
Resource person for day three (20-08-25) session was Dr. K. Nandhakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of English from N.M.S.S. Vellaisamy Nadar College (Autonomous), Madurai. He spoke on ‘AI powered Pronunciation and Speaking’ and introduced several AI Tools viz. ‘Duolingo’, ‘ELSA Speak’, ‘Speechling’, ‘Google’s AI pronunciation Tool’, ‘Chat GPT Voice’, ‘Sensay’, ‘Speeko’ and ‘Talkpal’. The session was quite interesting and it was well attended by 110 participants.
