The Department of Robotics and Automation, in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, jointly organized a webinar titled “ROBOTICS – THE EMERGING DOMAIN” on 30.04.2025. The objective of the webinar was to raise awareness among students about the applications of robotics in various industries.
Ms. K. Sathya, Robotics Programmer at Aquasub Engineering, Coimbatore, was the Guest Speaker for the session. The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. K. K. Ramasamy, Director – Administration, and Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal. The webinar was convened by Dr. V. Subburam, Professor & Head, Department of Robotics and Automation, and Dr. A. P. Sivasubramaniam, Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The welcome address was delivered by Mr. R. Chandrakanth, and the Chief Guest was introduced by Ms. P. Vijayadharsini, both third-year students of Robotics and Automation. Faculty members and students from both departments participated in large numbers and actively engaged in the session.
Ms. K. Sathya provided a clear explanation of the differences between robotics and automation, using various industrial examples. She discussed the evolution of industry from Industry 1.0 to Industry 4.0 and traced the development of robots from their inception to the current generation. She elaborated on the various components of a robot, different types of robots, and their modes of operation.
She also explained key robot specifications such as payload, reach, number of axes, and discussed the criteria for selecting a robot for specific tasks. Her presentation was enriched with relevant images and videos to enhance understanding. Furthermore, she shared insights into leading global robotics companies and their market positions.
Ms. Sathya also offered valuable guidance on potential interview questions that Robotics students may face, making the session highly practical and insightful. She interacted with the students throughout the webinar and addressed their questions at the end.
The session was well-received by all participants, who found it both informative and engaging. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. R. Vaishnavi, a second-year Robotics and Automation student.
