On August 30th, 2025, the Department of Agricultural Engineering organized an alumni guest lecture on “Elite Employment Opportunities in Agricultural Engineering.” The resource person for the session was Er. R. Naveen (B.E. Agricultural Engineering, 2018–2022), an alumnus of the department, currently working as a Senior Project Engineer at Indian Farmer Landscape Irrigation Systems, Chennai.
The event was coordinated by Mrs. M. Bhuvaneswari and Mrs. A. Subashini, Assistant Professors in the Department of Agricultural Engineering. The session was held at Kalam’s Chamber, Paavai Engineering College, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. It commenced with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address and the presidential speech delivered by Dr. B. Kailashkumar, Head of the Department. Dr. P. Tamilchelvan, Professor, Department of Agricultural Engineering, felicitated the resource person with a memento.
Er. R. Naveen began his lecture with an overview of the diverse and elite employment opportunities available in agricultural engineering, including roles in agribusiness, precision farming, sustainable agriculture, and agricultural machinery. He then focused specifically on the landscape and irrigation sector, highlighting key roles such as irrigation system design engineers, project engineers managing landscape irrigation projects, water resource management specialists, and consultants for sustainable landscape development.
He emphasized the importance of gaining practical experience with modern irrigation technologies such as drip and sprinkler systems, automated control systems, and IoT-enabled water management tools. He also stressed the need for developing technical skills in CAD software for irrigation layout design, along with a solid understanding of the soil-water-plant relationship, as essential for excelling in this sector.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions on career preparation, certification pathways, and internship opportunities in the irrigation and landscape industry. The lecture was attended by 150 students and 11 faculty members, all of whom benefited from the comprehensive insights shared on employment prospects within this vital and growing sector of agricultural engineering.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. P. Yogaraj, Student Secretary, who expressed appreciation to the resource person, faculty coordinators, and participants for making the session informative and inspiring.
