The Department of Cyber Security organized an Alumni Guest Lecture on “Importance of Security Audit and Risk Assessment” on 06.02.2026 at Kalam’s Chamber.
The session began with a prayer song sung by Ms. Keerthi M. and Ms. Biruntha D., both Second Year Cyber Security students, creating a pleasant and welcoming start to the programme.
The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Yazhini K., Second Year Cyber Security, who warmly greeted the audience and spoke about the relevance of the session for students pursuing careers in cybersecurity.
The Presidential Address was given by Dr. K. K. Ramasamy, Director (Administration), Paavai Institutions. In his speech, he highlighted the growing importance of security audits and risk assessments in today’s digital world. He explained that these practices are not just about compliance but are essential for protecting organizational data and systems. He also stressed that regular audits help institutions stay prepared for evolving cyber threats and ensure stronger operational stability.
The alumni speaker was introduced by Ms. P. Jeyasri, Second Year Cyber Security. The keynote speaker, Mr. S. B. Hariharan, currently working as a Graduate Engineer Trainee at HCL Tech, Chennai, then addressed the gathering.
In his session, Mr. Hariharan explained the core concepts of security auditing and risk assessment in a simple and practical manner. He described how organizations identify vulnerabilities, evaluate risks, and implement protective measures to strengthen their cybersecurity framework. He also spoke about the importance of regular audits in maintaining compliance and safeguarding sensitive information.
Adding a practical dimension to the lecture, he shared real-world examples from the industry and explained how risk assessments are carried out in professional environments. He also introduced students to commonly used cybersecurity tools, standards, and audit frameworks.
Mr. Hariharan further outlined the step-by-step process of conducting a security audit, including risk identification, analysis, evaluation, and reporting. His insights helped students understand how theoretical concepts are applied in real-time industry scenarios.
The session was highly engaging, with students actively participating through questions and discussions. Overall, the lecture provided valuable industry exposure and helped students gain a clearer understanding of cybersecurity practices and career opportunities in the field.
