An online program titled “Internship and Higher Studies in Taiwan Universities” was conducted on 07.05.2025 to familiarize students with the educational opportunities available in Taiwan. Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, provided continuous support in organizing the event. The arrangements were coordinated by Dr. K. Sundaramurthy, Head – IQAC and Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. V. Subburam, Head – Department of Robotics & Automation, and Dr. M. Raja, Head – Centre for Global Affairs and Department of AIDS.
The guest speakers included Mr. A. Mohammed Riyaz, Ms. K. Tharani (both pursuing their Master’s at Yuan Ze University), and Mr. S. Satheesh (pursuing his Master’s at National Taipei University of Technology). All three are alumni of Paavai Engineering College and are currently pursuing higher education in Taiwan.
Following the presidential address by the Principal and a welcome speech introducing the speakers, the resource persons began their presentations one by one.
Mr. Mohammed Riyaz, in his comprehensive speech, explained how internships abroad enrich students’ résumés and highlighted the opportunities Taiwan offers in this regard. He provided a clear roadmap outlining the step-by-step procedure—from online application to passport and visa requirements, approaching professors, university selection, financial needs, scholarships, stipends, and insurance. He also discussed cultural aspects, food options, the high level of public safety (noting the very low crime rate), and why Taiwan is renowned for its electronics and semiconductor industries. His personal experiences, both academic and cultural, served as motivation for students aspiring to study in Taiwan.
Mr. S. Satheesh, in his presentation, listed the essential documents required for admission into Taiwanese universities. He addressed the food-related challenges faced by Indian students, suggesting that cooking their own meals is preferable to eating out. He spoke at length about campus life and living in Taiwan, sharing valuable information for future aspirants. He also emphasized the importance of communication skills and learning Mandarin (Chinese language), which he said could significantly enhance employment prospects.
Ms. K. Tharani recounted her journey from Paavai Engineering College to Yuan Ze University, expressing gratitude for the support she received. She shared her experiences related to campus life, internships, and project work. She highlighted that Taiwan is an ideal destination for students from economically weaker sections, thanks to the availability of scholarships and stipends. She also proudly shared that she has been offered a position at Unication, a multinational company in Taiwan.
Dr. K. Sundaramurthy reflected on the visits made by faculty and students of Paavai Engineering College to various Taiwanese universities for doing internship. He emphasized the strong relationships established between Paavai and professors at these institutions, which have played a significant role in securing opportunities for students.
The session concluded on a lively note as students raised several questions, which were enthusiastically answered by the guest speakers. A large number of students and faculty members from various departments participated in the program and found it highly informative and engaging.
