A faculty development programme was organized by the Department of English, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous), Namakkal, on 02.02.2026. Dr.V.Kumaran, Associate Professor of English, PEC delivered an insightful lecture on ‘Teaching – Learning Paradigm: Archetypal and Post-Modernism’.
In his address, Dr. Kumaran elaborated on the various categories of teachers, parents, and students, and their diverse attitudes and behavioural responses within the teaching – learning process. He effectively applied the Theories of Hippocrates’, ‘Four Kinds of Humours and Northrop Frye’s ‘Archetypal Theory’ to explain behavioural patterns and learning paradigms in education.
He emphasized that a harmonious and effective teaching – learning environment can be achieved only through strong bonding, cooperation and positive behavioural responses among teachers, parents and students. While acknowledging the importance of modern pedagogical practices, he stressed that traditional teaching methods should not be neglected. He asserted that education should strike a balance between traditional and modern approaches.
Dr. Kumaran concluded his lecture by stating that traditional and modern teaching methods are two sides of the same coin, both essential for a successful teaching – learning process. The interactive discussion and exchange of ideas between the resource person and the audience were highly inspiring and thought provoking. The programme was inaugurated with a welcome address by the Head of the Department, Dr. R. Shanthi Professor- English and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. R. Kannan, Professor – English.
